Default slash upgrade questions

I have a 2wd Slash Raptor that I killed the brushed motor in. I am going with a cheap hobby king brushless combo to get it moving again. The problem I am having is what gearing should I be running. I killed the brushed motor due to running a much larger wheel and tire combo. I do not want to kill this one as well. Thanks in advance for the help

If you can provide the tire diameter, the size and Kv of the motor as well as the battery voltage (2s, 3s) you'll be running I can do some gearing calculations that'll get you close.

With any new combination you'll want to check motor and esc temps with a temp gun. They're not expensive, especially compared to the cost of a new motor and/or esc. If your new motor is similar in Kv to the VXL setup lookup the stock VXL gearing and drop a few teeth on the pinion to account for the larger tires. If Kv is higher drop a few more teeth on the pinion or vice versa and that should be really close too. Then just check temps every couple minutes while running, which as I said earlier you should do with any new combo or when you make a change to the combo.

Adding a fan doesn't hurt either.
