Its not paint...It's anodized. No clue if you can chemically remove it or not.

I had pretty good luck removing the color using a product called Grease Lightning. I soaked the plate in the stuff and it came right off. Then I polished it to a shine.

I've heard that oven cleaner will strip the anodizing off. Not tried it though.

Oven cleaner works but you have to be good on the timing or else it gets dark. Dont ask me how long to leave it on though but it does work.

You're right about that. Once, I used oven cleaner to remove the chrome from my wheels. I left them outside for more than 8 hours. Wanna know what happened? It got dark. The sun went down. The stars came out. I think it was a waning moon, too!

I used a jitterbug sander (random orbital sander) to do mine... took almost zero effort to get the blue off. I could keep at it and polish it down to a mirror finish, but it will just be getting scratched up on the first run anyways...

i've heard of using oven cleaner also, but i have'nt done it and don't know the details. spray paint would be ok, unless you want a bare aluminum finish

I would think spray paint, or any paint for that matter, would get scratched/chipped off verrrry easily. that's why I just polished the anodizing off mine...

The only problem with removing the anodizing is the aluminum oxidizes easy(goes dull)

Yes the alluminum does go dull but thats why at the bottom of my link it shows you to polish it and what it looks like before and after..

spray it with a coat of clear after it's polished. once you have all the stuff attached to it, you can't see that much of it anyway. and if you worry about paint chips and keep your truck spotless, then it won't take you very long to re-sand and reclear it when you have it all stripped for cleaning!

i wonder if car wax on the chassis[to keep the shine] would last with nitro gunk on it?

Yea 89ram, car wax will repel a lot of garbage you throw at your truck. If you look on the link theres other ways to keep your truck clean(or at least a safe way without damaging electronics).
