I have a stock Revo 2.5.

My friend just got an HPI Baja, and in stock form it walks away from my 2.5 pretty easy.

I know they are different scales but it would be nice to surprise him and have my Revo pass by his big HPI just to see his face.

We only really only raced in deep bumpy sand so his larger car was considerably more stable/faster under those conditions. We have not tried hard pack yet or a homemade track.

Is it a hopeless cause or a reachable goal?


I have never seen a Revo 3.3 or Big Block Revo in person so I can't compare them to the Baja. When I go to upgrade the REVO's engine will for example a Picco .26 be able to keep up to a Baja? Are they in completely different leagues as far as acceleration/speed of a 1/10th scale?

That is far away for me right now because of the expense.

I was a hoping just an upgraded engine would give him fits!

Big block conversion and gear it up for topend. Although this isn't a whole lot cheaper really. And putting in a true bb can be a real hassle with the traxxas conversion kit. My brother just put a .28 in his revo but hasn't had time to change gears yet and it pulls the front end up at 1/4 throttle and reaches top speed very fast. We raced this weekend and he tromped my lst2 on the low end but I caught up in the topend. No doubt in my mind that geared up he would run away from me(untill my packages arrive).

I think if you go BB with an sts .30 and pipe combo with the motor and all it would be like a $180 order. Then you you would just gotta add a pipe somewhere in there. But the conversion I'm talking about is not for beginners. It Is probably possible to keep up with him in a straight line but then with all that power you'd have to get the power to the ground and with a motor that big. My bro has this motor in his savage and it insane but It litterally takes a full gallon to break in. It really isn't for beginners but i think that combo could keep up with a stock 5b IMO. I'm not saying go out and buy this because i think it will beat a 5b. What I am saying is if I wanted to, thats the motor i would get. If your raceing at the track tho just try to lighten up your truck as much as you can. Like investing in a forward only conversion. It takes out a lot of rotating mass in the tranny. or look up teckno racing for some other parts to keep it on the light side.

P.S. the motor is modded so its not exactly accurate compared to a stock one. But you get tha pic with a 13lb truck with that motor will do.

big block NOTHING if u cant beat that stock baja 5B ur doing something very wrong...............the stock baja tuned PERFECT only does 31 MPH.............that 2.5 should be able to keep up and pass him........



once he starts upgrading ull need to also..............got for a tru big block picco 28,novarossi 28 stuff like that

I was running a 14/40 combo at the time.

Seemed that the Baja still pulled through the rough choppy sand better with its torque and midrange.

We will see when we get on the road/hardpack and I'll put the 38 back on.


Is the Picco .26 the best all around BB when considering price/performance?

^^^ yea that vid was great nd really impressive but the conversion kit itself is $250 Then your talkin another $120 for electronics with the stock reciever... I would rather spend around $180 for the sts .30 nd new era motor mount. Then another $50-$60 for the sts pipe if you REALLY want to let out all the power. Oh nd getting the right shimming but that cost time not money... So instead of spending roughly $370 to make it brushless you could have an unbeatable truck for HALF the price. give or take $10. so with the diffrence in money you could beff up the drivetrain.. More bang for the buck... Nuff said.

Dude your revo should kick the crap out of the baja it only goes 20 23 mph while the revo is like 40 45.... start with making it lighter I will post my revo and you can see what you can do to yours
