Default O.S. problems once again.

okay. put my 2nd motor on. used the ez start this time instead of the jump start. press the button. it clicks. its like the flywheel moves until the piston isnt at BDC anymore then stops. and it just clicks every time i press the button. idk what to do. any idea's? it has to be either the OWB, the flywheel, or the clutch shoes. theres nothing else left on the motor that isnt new.

It clicks, as in? Does the piston turn over, or does it get stuck at TDC? Try to also loosen the glowplug a little bit, then try to start. If it starts, tighten the glowplug back up.

okay i loosened the glow plug and heated it up...forgot to mention that...and no...the flywheel barly turns at all...and it just clicks...its like then it feels the slightest bit of resistance it wont move. if this doesnt help i'll make a video and put it up. tomorrow.

could it really be the clutch shoes or the flywheel causing the problem? they are the only things i havent replaced. i got a new OWB...and im still using the stock shoes and flywheel.

Clutch shoes have no affect on starting the engine. Unless they engage when you try to start it, they shouldn't cause a problem. Does the clutchbell rotate freely without turning the flywheel?

a fresh charge on your battery? Does the flywheel turn when the ezstart turns on? Oh...I want to tell you I read on another forum that there is a spacer that goes in the OS 18 engine if you're using a starter box. Maybe somebody already mentioned that thou., just FYI

yeah ez start battery is full...and the fly wheel just barely moves...prob half a centimeter...then stops...then goes back...then does the same thing everytime i press the button. and what does a starter box have anything to do with what im trying to solve?

It doesn't..but on your 1st engine weren't you trying to use a starter box?

If you have loosen the glow plug, & heated the heat & put it BDC and it still won't start, I'm thinking the EZstart just doesn't have the snort to turn that new motor over.

sorry, I mis-understood. I did read the "everything OS 18" and one guy did have a hard time starting it until he leaned the HSN.
Good luck with this one, it suppose to be a great engine,

I had the same problem as you when I first got my 18tm. If I didn't heat up the engine hot enough it wouldn't turn over. Also the other thing I had to do was lean the LSN while it was turning over otherwise the engine would flood and stop turning over. Between that and pinching the fuel line a little as well to limit the fuel coming into the crank to much. It was a bit of a pain, but once I figured this out, starting was a who;e lot easier. My problem now is I have an air leak in the front bearing so I'll be sending the engine back to OS to fix or replace.

if you really wanna get it started, just get a rubber wheel you can put in an electric drill and start it with that for the time being, i'v done that, just bump it on the flywheel.

i re lubed the OWB and cleaned it and everything. i took the jump start off and i turned the OWB. and it just moves on the starter shaft...and it moves both ways. idk much about one way bearings but shouldnt it only move one way?

also...do u think if i bought the Hot bodies OWB if that would make a difference? instead of the traxxas one? since i am using a hot bodies jump start.

I think that the one way bearing has some letters on one end. They have to face a certain way for it to work correctly. The Letters must face the engine. Make sure you have it installed correctly.

did you by any chance just take off the ez start and put it back on? when i had my 2.5 motor it did the same thing and i tightened the screws down to tight for the ez start to the motor and the one single one in the middle of the ez start. try to loosen them screws 1/4 of a turn and see if that helps. sounds like you just got something binding.

it really sounds like your OWB is on backwards, if not it is probably the backplate/starting rod not connecting to the crankshaft.

Yeah, I think your OWB is on backwards. Try to rotate it the opposite way the starter turns it manually. If it doesn't spin, you have the OWB on backwards. OWBs only rotate one way, which is the way the engine turns over. The other way should be for the starter, so it locks and rotates while turning the engine over at the same time.
