Default going to install OS .30vg engine in revo.. What do I need

Hey all, I have a revo 3.3 with a .23 sirio right now. the sirio sucks....... I have decided I want to install a os .30vg (p)-x [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLGH8&P=SM]link to tower for the motor[/link] but I dont know what I need. I am assuming my mount for the sirio will not work with the .30 as the sirio is a tough fit. so I was looking at the evolution mount from new era models (check this link) [link=http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?session_id=&part_id=2553]mount[/link]. What do I need to do in terms of a flywheel or clutch nuts, or can I just take them all off the sirio and they will work ok. can the stock 2 shoe clutch handle 3hp from the .30 or not? basically other than the mount and the motor, will I need anything else? (I have a full metal transmission (other than second gear) and the robinson racing heavy duty slipper plate, and cvd center shafts so drivetrain should be fine. I just mostly bash with a few races here and there but just for fun at a local track, nothing too competitive) -Mike

hey ckeck out my gallery i have a few shots of mine. i dont have time to list what you need but i will give more details latter today. trust me when i say, DONT USE THE NEW ERA BB KIT. that thing blows. check this out first.

http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...roducts_id=339

that is the best way to do it. also you can use the traxxas bb kit too but you need the tekno throttle linkage kit. the only thing is you will need a bump box to start it. unless you use the new era kit. but like i said that thing is junk. i think that i may have every thing that you would need to put one in. it also have a new os 30 gv if you are interested i would sell it all to you for a good price.

I would reconsider your choice of engine. The Os 30 is a good engine it just doesn''t have the top end...all of its grunt is down low.

Default RE: going to install OS .30vg engine in revo.. What do I need

I dont have a bump box or the money to buy one. I do have the techno linkage though coming already. I thought I would need it with the Sirio, but managed to get full opening without it. Maybe I have the traxxas bb kit in already. If so with the techno linkage and the 0S .30 it should still work right? (my sirio has room for the pull start, will the OS also?)

no you will not have room for a pull start. to be honest i dont think you will like this set up. i also have a revo with a picco 26. it will run laps around my 30vg. and it is not bad for bashing. i have just started bashing. i used to only race. but i just wanted to have a little fun rather than trying to race all the time. the 30 vg is a very smooth motor but it has no top end. the bottom end is not that great also. for what you would spend to make it work i think you could find a better motor for less money. like the picco. i really liked the axail 28rr. it was 10 times better than the os 30vg. it has good top end. you can also see it it my gallery. but you need a bump box as well. they have it at impakt for $109. mine was out of this world. i have seen revos pull wheelies in second but this thing was doing flips when it hit second. that was with the largest gearing too. but if you are dead set on the os 30vg go for it. but if you want crazy bashing power look into another motor. the 30 vg is better for racing but i wouldnt use it as a race motor because it is not good on fuel economy. i need to post some video of my revo with the picco. so people can see the power that thing has. i have owned 15 revos and several motors over the past 3 years and the picco has been one of my favorites so far.

Don''t.

Get a 26 max or a 21 Tm. more than enough power.

Would be really cool if those results included torque at optimal rpm... but I guess ya can''t have everything!

So if the .30vg is no go, then would someone please link me to a motor that I can either pull start besides this one, that will have ludicrous power. It is really important to me to pull start, maybe drill. -Mike

Well, I should mention I am a power hungry driver. I LOVE wheelies and quick pick ups for jumps. I rarely go long distances at open throttle and am really obsessed with obscene amounts of power. I dont know if that would have enough power for what I am looking for.

I have installed a Big Block XTM .28 in a 3.3 Revo using the New Era BB kit that lays the engine way over. I even used the Revo stock clutch and geared with 18/36. I found the New Era kit to be of exceptional high quality, everything fit properly. You only have to take care to install properly their new throttle linkage.

The kit will allow either a pull starter or roto starter. I used a roto starter.

To my great suprise, the clutch held up much better than expected, and the engine powered the Revo very nicely.

I have since removed that engine and put in a Picco .26 max, which was a lot harder to install with the Ofna motor mount, but once figured out, is good. The Picco .26 max is very well ballanced to the Revo and is probably better than the actual big block, but I miss the Big Block in a Revo. I still have the engine on the New Era mount, all ready to go. When another Revo comes my way, that will go into it.

Hey all, I have a revo 3.3 with a .23 sirio right now. the sirio sucks.......
Why do you say the Sirio .23 sucks? What issues are you having? I have a Sirio .23 in my ten pound SuperMaxx and it still pops wheelies like mad! Its tunes like a champ and run super smooth.

Well, i can get it tuned in to where it can go with a quick pull, no wheelie, not even any lift off the ground for the front wheels. It can get up to speed fairly well. When I try to richen my low some it will stall really fast (it runs lean on the low end) and if I try to lean my high (it needs to be leaner) it stalls. I have lots of trouble tuning it. I have tested my glow plugs, tried multiples, and they all work. I have an idea how to tune a motor, I am not great at it, but ok. My OS on the rc10gt can flip the car immediately even from speed, I had no probs tuning that, just not this sirio.

If you used anything warmer than a cold plug that would explain your problems, Sirio engines using 20% nitro require a cold plug. Also the tuned pipe that is used has a HUGE impact on performance, I am using the tuned pipe designed specifically for the Sirio .23 which is why my engine runs so screaming fast with uncontrolable wheelies! OS engines are very easy to tune compared with anyother engine, even though I love Sirio motors my next engine will be an OS for sure.

the picco .26 is an absolute brute for torque and the top end is decent.....I can literally flip my heavy duty bash Tmaxx on its lid from a stand still with the picco .26 and the sirio pipe or the THS pipe both using the OS header....the OS header is an awesome pc.....When I bought it I nearly puked cause it was over 30 bucks just for the header but after 3 gallons + of fuel it isn''t even dented at all and it screams.....the stock headers would bend after every jump same as the header that came witht he THS pipe.

That Sirio tuned pipe is one of the best tuned pipes for .21-.27 engines! Even for the OS .18TM this pipe turns the OS .18 into a monster, sounds deep and endless power band.

Is that a good pipe, or is it part of my problem?

I don't think that pipe was made for a medium block engine such as the Sirio .23, looks more like a good pipe for the TRX 2.5R-TRX 3.3. Get a side pipe like the one in the picture below of HELLFINGER's, you need a bigger volume pipe. ZNote you will need a header to go with it.
