are revo 3.3 trucks competitive ?
i love the revo 3.3 and my LHS supports the hek out of it. I plan on doing some racing with it at a track 45 min away. They have a monster truck class that i want to compete in. Would this truck do the trick ? ive seen some of the other losi, associated and hpi versions and them seem very nice. My experiance with the gas Traxxas trucks are more in the line of BYbing and there increadibly durable and easy to get parts for.
In the past i used to race electric stadium trucks and traxxas wasnt very competitive (i ran losi).
Im not sure if the revo is enty grade only and would take alot of $ in hop ups to make it competitive worthy.
opinions ?

The Revo is the most sucessfull racing platform on the market today. You can go to the Traxxas web site and check out the set up sheets that Traxxas drivers used to win all thier championships to get a good idea of what it takes to be race ready.

Zed.... I race in the Monster truck class, with my revo. Its runs great and there is a few things you will need, but not alot. I've got a 6th place trophy and last yr.
I took 4th. this Sunday is the first points race of the new season, but its going to rain ALL DAY!!!! So sure it's goin to be cancealed. Let me know if u want
some details on setup. I love that class cause there's not a crap load of racer in my class.. Truggy and Buggy r packed.

Yeah no doubt, a sealed, broken-in, and tuned3.3 can be very competitive. All a stock revo really needs is a diet (pull or bump-start, foc, etc), shock oil and wheels/tires to compete. Unless you are running stock class which IMO would be fun as hell.

I would go with proline premounted tires on dish wheels. Look for the truggy ones, they are 3.7 inch and alot narrower than the 40-series stuff. That's what I have on mine and they work awesome. Choose whatever tread you want, I got a smokin deal on mine from ebay. They're'proline 3.7 lpr crime fighters'.You might need 17 mm hubadapters too, depending on your vehicle. I used the composite ones from maximizer, they're cheap and work better than aluminum. With 17mm hubs you have many options.

Here's what would be the bestSTART on a new race revo....IMO. Try switching the shock oil to 40-45 weight oil, remove the e-z start, get a forward-only or a center diff/rear brake kit, anduse one goodsteering servo instead of 2. Then get a THS pipe/header combo and you'll have a real screamer. You may want to add 1 or 2teeth to your clutch bell too. Or add 1 tooth to the belland take 2 off the spur, whatever works for you.

RE: are revo 3.3 trucks competitive ?
racing ANYTHING is expensive !!!!!!
the truck your looking into is cheap in compairision
wholy cow man, there are poeple that start with a truck or truggy
thats in the thousand dollar range ,THEN upgrade it ..........
this hobby is expensive ! sure there are other that are waaaay more
but if your going to race ,you better be prepared to pony up a little
if you want to win (thats kinda the objective when racing)!!!
good luck, and just remember have fun !!!cause thats what it's all about !!

I agree with the rest of these guys, the revo 3.3 is a great truck to race in the Monster Truck class. The only monster trucks on the track that outperform it are erbe's. The main upgrades I did were tires/wheels which are track specific, ask the faster guys at the track, and a wing/wing mount, and better electronics (radio & servo's).
