What is needed?
 

Hey fellas i have been contemplating on a engine swap in my maxx cause i think the 3.3 of 5 years is done. I am actually doing this for my son i have 3 months left out here in Iraq to get done with it, it is going to be a suprise for him, he has an emaxx now and he has been good while i have been gone so i want to give him a little present. I bought a new engine for my muggy and now i have a fresh Mach 427 i have been looking in the forums but i cant find it anymore. But if someone could help me out. I need to know what all i need to buy to get this Mach 427 to fit. I am not worried about the drive train as i have Robinson Racing through out the truck and steel drivelines. So if anyone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it. I have looked at some kits but i dont know if they will fit a true Big Block in them. Money is not a object this is going to a special project for me i plan on redoing everything in the truck and powder coating everything some color. If anyone could help it would be awesome thanks fellas. This is what i have right now besides the wheels and tires i have 40 series bow ties now.

I had been looking to do the same with my T-Maxx. The exhaust header seems to be the biggest problem. It interferes with the left rear shock and tower. I have just purchased my 3.3 extended chassis and don't want to ditch it for a big block chassis kit quite yet. It's like my Mach 427 is just sitting here laughing at me.

Well i found a big block conversion kit and purchased it. I have also been working on a little project for this truck while i wait. I have been able to fit losi muggy diffs or lst2 diffs in my T-maxx with out spending all that money. I looked up 1\8th scale diff conversions and the price was about 250-300 buck. So i came up with something different that works and all you need is two losi diffs and some traxxes diff housing collars 6 of them to be exact. It was real simple you need sand paper and a sharp knife. I will get pics up when i am completly done i am waiting on a couple more collars and i havent ordered my two diffs yet but i have my muggy diffs and i will use those to mock them up while i wait for mine. Just trying to help yall out if yall decide to put bigger diffs in your maxx with out spending all the money. But as for the answer to my question i purchased the RD logics .21 BB conversion for the maxx, it will allow up to a .36 to be mounted. This way my truck will be completely bullet proof and i wont have to worry about busting diffs with the Mach 427 i am putting in it. But i will post some pics when i get completely done with my project.

Well RBH since you are the only one interested it seems. But the mod is going nice and smooth so far got my bulk head shaved out and my traxxas diff colars fixed so that it will allow the 1/8th losi diffs drive shafts are where it gets tedious you have to get losi lst2 shafts and take apart your cvd's on the traxxas and grind down the inside to make the ball joint fit in the the ball socket. the after market ths cvd's are not quite long enough and need about 1/4 inch more. So that is where i came up with the losi shaft idea. when i am done i will let you know and give you my email cause it takes to long to upload the pictures on the forums due to the fact i am in Iraq. This also lets you know that this is easy it is to accomplish this conversion. I have my losi diffs on the way and my two lst2 drive shafts, along with my BB chassis conversion. The BB conversion shassis was the most expensive thing to buy but like i said i will post up when i have it finished and show it off a little.

RBH her are the steps that i took to get this mod done.

Step 1

You must have three diff housing colars per differential.

Step 2
Disassemble suspenions system down to the bulkheads.
Take a dremel or sand paper and sand the inside of the
collar until it fits snug onto the losi 1\8th diff.
you must cut off the ears that are on the collars also on
two of them. Take your third one and do the same thing but
do not cut the ears off.

Step 3

Take your bulkheads and sand the hole where the diff sits
and sand it out so the collar on the diff fits in snug inside
the bulk head. You do the same for both sides of the bulk heads.
Then you take both bulk heads and slide them over the diff.
Now you take the collar that you didnt cut the ears off and cut
an angle in the ears so they fit inside the hole on the bulk heads.
That is all there is to the diff conversion.

Step 4

This is where it get tedous. Now its time for the drive shafts.
As you know the cups on the losi diffs are about 1\4 of an inch
to short. I came up with that fix, i had the THS drive shafts on
my Maxx so i took those off and took the drive shaft apart. I took
my muggy drive shafts apart also. I took the THS cups and grinded the
inside of the cup out until the muggy shaft fit inside of the cup. Its
not much at all. Now you can either put them back together with the THS
pins that are holding them together, or you can drill them out to fit
the muggy pins they are also just a little bit bigger also. Then you put
them back together make sure you use loc tite when you tighten the grub
screw. Then you are ready to go. The only thing i havent done yet is use the
shafts that come with the big block kit to see if they fit on the input shaft.
But that should be just as easy as the rest of it.

Updated Pics Sorry no diffs yet havent recieved the housings or the pinion gears. No flywheel yet either. The last piece to my puzzle.

Well in case anyone is still following this the build was a success and is finally complete. Tomorrow is the first test run trying to let the loc-tite sit over night to dry. But everything that i explained in this thread can be done and should work just fine when i am done.

nice looking setup man..if i were you i might consider the extended chassis i have the revo 3.3 and i ve tested a revo 2.5 without the exteded chassis (but with the 3.3 mtor) and i found the extended chassis to really help with steering... also cool custom upgrades

This is the extended chassis that is a true big block motor in the truck not a mid block. That motor came out of my Muggy.

Well the truck runs freakin awesome. If i add a stiff wheelie bar i will be able to do standing backflips with it :D but i am going to gear it up for more speed and less torque. I had a little problem with the tranny shifting but i adjusted it and all i have to say is [X(] crazy wicked fun truck. It handles like a 1/8th scale does and doesnt flip over like it use to. I think my son is going to love this thing. So this mod does work and i think soon i am going to be putting the lrp .28 spec 3 in it to see what it does cause i am looking at buying a lrp .30 for my muggy. The maxx might stand a chance when i gear it up and put the .28 in it to keep up with the muggy. Just thought i would let yall know how it went. I wish i would have had a camera guy here when i took it out. It is all packed up ready to be shipped home to my son. Well take it easy fellas.

Well fellas it is finally done. Here is the link on its maiden voyage had to order a bigger clutch bell cause it wasnt spinning the tranny fast enough for it to shift. So no more crazy wheelies :(
the wheels just spin in the dirt so traction out here sucks bawls. But here is the link to you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSfEklHOz4k . I have to fix the mill it has a airleak somewhere or it might be from me trying to spin the carb around to get it in the right direction it was siezed in the case so i had to get it out with pliers and screw drivers. But if it comes down to it i will just put a axial .28 in it instead.

nice truck man. def up on your build. i have barely been able to drive mine with the 3.3 cause the person who owned it before me didnt take too good care of it. i ordered a new 3.3 but if i get tired of it i already bookmarked this thread. great write up.

Thanks bro. I took a little longer then i wanted it to due to the fact that getting parts out to iraq takes a long time. But it is finally done, i think my son will love this crazy monster. The only thing i am going to do to it when i get home is put the new mill in it so he can break it in and start from scratch.
