RE: KMP OV-10 build
QUESTION: Is anybody using DU-BRO Kwik Fill fueling valves ? I have used them in my OV-10. one in each boom. I went from Fuel Dot system to Kwik-Fill system and now I am having Engine/Fuel flow problems!

RE: KMP OV-10 build
Well I finally finshed the cockpit and now I am getting ready to fit the canopy. It did run into and issue with the fiberglass cockpit area. I had cut out to allow my pilot busts to fit through. First thing is even though this is a primed model you Must reprime the parts so paint will stick. Second thing is that I set the cockpit area out in the sun to help dry the paint. Well the part got very hot and the areas i had relieved became very flimsey. So I had to make doublers for the area. I am not sure I will leave this plane sitting out in the sun for long periods.
I did install both seat backs and insturment panels. I also painted the lower half of the pilots on the cockpit floor...

Well I got everything in my canpoy and I have the canopy glued on and have to let it set over night..
I have also Just recieved My main wheels. I decided that I would go with a 4.5" williams Brother smooth contour wheel because its nice and thin and I can get it into the nacell twith out too much cutting. It will fit in the nacelle but you do have to move teh rudder cable housing over to the fuse side a little more. Here are the pic's before and after ...

While setting the plane up and taking it apart I found it was nessary and helpful to build a crutch to hols the plane. I need to do that because I broke a dowel off trying to take it apart the other day. I will have to transport this plane apart so this will help in assembly at the field..

I was also at the hobby shop the other day and I was needing new battery packs for the Bronco. I am planning to put hte batteries in the nose. The premade 6.0v packs were running about $30 each. I found these pack for $13.95 each and they were 1800 mah. So i bought 2 of them and removed 1 cell and then put new leads on it. I have cyled the battery packs and I am adverging 2000mah per cycle...

Well i have all but finished the OV-10. I have painted it since my last post and installed everything.
I found out the hard way that you have to prime the whole plane again. My paint rolled right off the original primer.
I have even balanced it. It weighs 33lbs balanced with 1 lbs of nose weight added.. I still have to run the engines.....

RE: KMP OV-10 build
WOW..13lbs heavier!! That is going to make my E-conversion VERY difficult. I was going to use two E-flite power 60's, but now, if its 30lbs, that won't work[] Maybe a pari of Himaxx HC-50's will do they trick, on a 10S lipo they are equivalent to a 120 sized Glow.

Great looking Bronco - really like the finish and details. keep us posted - very interested in reports.
Retracts, paint and details do add wieght. Check out the OV-10 tread on the 80" version regarding wieghts. Ours with retracts and modifications range 17 to 20 lbs range but fly well. 33 lbs is no problem for this size wing, should be light.
Have not started mine yet - just gathering modification parts (for more wieght !!)
Dont know enough about the G20's - should be OK
Mine was the factory camo painted version but I may end up changing to another color scheme (oops more weight)
I plan on two gass 26'ers but would also prefer the 20's.

RE: KMP OV-10 build
I ran the 20's today and they ran great right out of the box. I have not touched the carb settings. They matched up pretty well. The book calls for 15x8 APC props. My local hobby shop did not have them so I got 2 16x6. They ran up well to about 8100rpm's . It says you can get 8900 with the 15x8.. I think the 16x6 will fly it fine though. I built it just as the instructions says except I added 1 extra servo the the elevators. I think even using 91 four strokes you are looking at 28lbs easy. My g-20's weigh 41oz each where the Magnum 91 weighs 23oz. So your looking at just over 2 lbs more for my 2 g-20's. the engines are so close to the CG they don't help much with the needed nose weight..

RE: KMP OV-10 build
Is anyone using regular Robart or spring air retracts with robo-struts on these? If so what size? Does the kit come retract ready or do you have to modify it yourself? thanx

RE: KMP OV-10 build
I talked to Robart about 2 weeks ago because someone had the same question. Robart said it would be about 8-12 weeks before they would have gear out for this plane. The problem is theet the nose whell has to rake alot more forward than just 90 drgrees. its about 103 degrees to get the front wheel in. I don't think spring air has one that will go that far. If you are looking for something a little cheaper than the scale gear. Shindin offers a set of gear with non scale struts. You can get a set with 3 staight legs for alot cheaper than the scale set.

RE: KMP OV-10 build
I ended put my batteries up front one on either side of the nose gear, I have Thunder Tiger Pro 1.20s spinning 15-8 Graupner 3 bld. props, each turning up to 8200 rpms. I fly it a half throttle, well I did until the left engine to quit, I later found out that head bolts loosened up on this engine as well as the glow plug also was found to be a little loose as well, I pulled the power but I was to fast and at a bad altitude when it quit, so while having to much room to make a long gear up landing it got so far out I couldn't judge the air speed I got it to slow and it snapped in. Now after $400.00 in replacement parts and a little bit of rebuilding I'm ready to recover the airframe. These are a couple of picks before it was finished, you know take it out and hang a few parts on it to appeas your Flying Buddies. Enjoy...Don

RE: KMP OV-10 build
You know, I hate to say this but I never put it on the scales. I'll get it mocked up with the only thing missing will be the covering/finish and get it posted. Thanks...Don

RE: KMP OV-10 build
Here is a pic of the batteries i have in the plane. I have 4 yes four batteries up front. 2- 6volt and 2- 4.8 volt batteries. This really helped with the nose weight. I only had to add about another 10oz to balance it. I am using the 6 volt for the servos and 4.8 volts for the reciever...
