Default Nosen 310

The other night I was caught in a weak moment at the hobby shop. There was a Nosen 310 stuck off in the corner. It had some wintip damage, no cowls and was missing a window. It has been primed but that's as far as it went. It has fixed landing gear installed. I could have it for $75 but only if I took it home right then. Naturally I was in my pickup so now I have yet another unfinished airplane in the shop.

Problems: No plans. Wingtip damage, missing both cowls and one side window. It seemed to weigh a freaking ton but closer inspection revealed the landing gear plates were made of, no kidding, 1/8" plate steel with sprung steel tube struts welded in place. Just pulling these gear units and the 60 screws that held them shaved 7 pounds from the airplane. Of course I need to replace them but I can do better than that! The plane seems to be finished heavy and that can be fixed as can some of the over engineering (read overuse of plywood in many places) I've found. The firewalls are 3/8" ply and that seems too much.

I need to know if anyone has plans or a source for some for this airplane. What should it weigh ready to fly and what engine displacement will provide solid power? There is a guy locally who has one but he rarely flies and hasn't flown his 310 in decades. It would provide some good clues if I can find him. Where should it balance? This is on the build sheet for late next year which means I might get to it before the next presidential election but maybe that's a good time to build it. Any information orsources for the missing items is appreciated. Thanks.

By the way, reply to the forum if you don't mind. The e-mail in my profile is no longer in service and I haven't gotten around to updating it. Thanks.

Ok, I can't give you definate answers as I don't have this plane, my friend does...however his I believe weighs in the thirties, and flies excellent, I have some stick time on it..it flies nicely.. I can't recall what size 4 cycle he has on it 150's maybe? But we have both talked about it and this plane should fly great with a couple of weedeater 25 ccs on it. Its hard to believe but the plane was originally designed for 60 two cycles..

I have three ( I know call me silly ) But any way I still have the plans and the insruction sheets for mine. They all weigh in around 34lbs. dry. One has a pair of OS 108's one has a pair of YS120's and the third has a pair of fox 2.4 gas. Two have retracts one does not. All fly almost the same. The cowls can be ordered from I think its fiber glass masters out of joplin mo. i think they also do tip tanks for this as well.

Handyman is right, he is "silly" but I've seen them fly here in Muskogee and they fly great. Rumor has it that he has already got the new Top Flight 310 on order. I've seen them fly with one engine out and one time landing with the gear up. Both lived to fly again.

The fiberglass parts are available from Fiberglass Specialties. Good quality and good service.

Those 55s should pull the 310 just great. No starters though. Olen Carson now has the only twin with onboard starters in this area.

a man with your wisdom should be able to figure a way to put the staters on the 55's
