Default Antonov AN-22

I am giving serious consideration to Antonov AN-22 as my next giant scale project as soon as S Connie is test flown this summer. I want it to be same scale as S Connie at 1/14th Scale. Since An-22 has wingspan of 211' at 14th scale it will be 15.07' or say 15'1" for easiness. I would want to power it with 4x .90sz glow engines or G20 gassers!. Dose anyone know if there is a model of this beast that already exists as RC model?, if it does then i like to know about it and its builder. One major problem that already occurred is no info on its airfoil/s on the net, if anyone have this info please let me know so i can see what RC airfoils i can use on this model.

Here are both root and tip airfoils i have found:

Antonov An-22 Antheus TsAGI S-5-16 TsAGI S-5-13

Now can anyone who have airfoil generation program can draw profiles for me on PDF files, i would highly appreciate you help.

It's not Antinov, it's Antonov.
Thanks Yuri, you almost got me on that one....

Thanks Reuben,

I will download Profili 2 and see what it can do for my application, it does have 12% and 8% TsAGI airfoils but i can't see them for some reason without downloading the program at this time.

Props,
Can you get hold of the airfoil co-ordinates. That is the most important part because then you can import them into the program.

Sabre,

I spent whole night trying to find its airfoil without success myself till this was sent to me "Root: TsAGI S-5-16 Tip: TsAGI S-5-13", i don't know where to find airfoil co-ordinates for An-22....

Prop,
I should think that you need not make the original airfoil. Instead you can use NACA type. What you need to find out is whether the original airfoil had a droop down leading edge which judging by the above drawings they were not. Consequently I shouldn't think that making a different airfoil would prejudice the model's flight. Maybe you should think of a percentage washout or a different type of tip airfoil so that the program can provide you with a blended wing. Naca 4415 for the root and 2415 for the tip is a good starting point (4415 is a thicker type of airfoil).
My 2 cents

Sabre,

That is exactly what i intend to do also, pick up new airfoil for this bird, but i still intend to find its actual airfoil shapes as i have never seen them before, I was more thinking on lines of using Naca 2418 for root and 4412 for tip, same airfoils as my Connie's...

Still under works, what would be good airfoils for this beast, plus what construction method would be fast, easy and economical for this build. Since the main under carriage retracts sort of like C-130!, could its retract principal work on this model?, any recommendations would be great...

Remember on the AN-22 I think half of the main gear trucks rotate with the aircraft turns so that they don't rip the tires off the beads. Also how are you going to replicate the overall droop from wing root to wing tip and the flex upwards when the aircraft is in flight?

I would think it best to model the wing as it would be in level flight or close to it. I would think it would be very hard to actually model the wing flex the fullsize 'Cock' has.

This is how flex will be adapted in the outer wings of AN-22, it was done in DS Tu-95 so it can be done on AN-22's wing also. http://www.scaleaero.com/tu95_Wing_Flex.htm
As for inner wings they will have fixed anhedral droop from root to mid wing joint point.

An-22 Taxing:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0653566/L/

An-22 Flying:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0727635/L/

It seems as there is flex joint points in between both engines on the wing!, i doubt it can be done on the model as wing will become very fragile and unpractical!...

Schwatd:

I am or now rather say wasn't aware that last boggie/truck on the main retracts of An-22 turns to help safe tread on other tires and also to help this beast make sharp corner turns similar to B777, now this could be complicated, i am sure by the time this project gets to that stage i will come up with method to resolve this also.

Im building one.
124 inches wingspan
all foam (white/blue), with CNC cutting
glassed fuselage/wings)
retracts (the most dificult part of tye project->i-ve made more than 8 different studies to find one relatively easy to build and to operate in grass fields)
Profiles: Root:S7055 and tip:E214
4 brushless Komodo
2 packs 2.100 Miliampers Li-Poly, 11,1 volts, series/parallel
aprox.5kilos AUW.

Hi,

Do you have plans on paper or just on CAD files?, i would be interested in getting plans from you and building one myself at slightly bigger wingspan with glow engines or small gassers like G20.

Regards
