got the cockpit kit today.. here are some pictures of what came in.. there are several sheets. it won't be long and ill start on the cockpit and get it ready to install.

will be painting everything out. something i want to do to it. like add cloth on the seats and back and add small leds in the side pannels for the lights that will be red for night. going to try and make it as real as i can. lots of things to do.. carpet and head liner.

have not had time to do much.. started to cover outer wings.. found mistake and corrected it. working on right outer wing at this time, then will do left side. will post pictures later. Have a busy week so will not get as much done as i would like to.

For paint for plane go with PPG.
For your landing gear door hinges check out www.bvmjets.com. They have small hinges for gear doors.
Also check out the build on RCU for the Wendell Hostetler Cessna 421 converted to a Cessna 425 twin turbo prop. Most importantly check out the amazing paint job he is doing. It is a balsa and ply build that has been glassed.

well the left wing is ready to sand and cover with glass.. the tip tank is in placed but not installed yet.. will be after glassing. now to finish up the other wing. not sure what imgoing to use for paint. ppg or something else. i may use latex paint thinned down with washer fluid. then clear coat the whole thing.
i tried a couple of different hinges but nothing would work right so i made my own set up and everything works now.
will keep you updated as i continue.

I would strongly suggest PPG brand with an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) paint gun. Any plane that I have seen that has had an outstanding paint job was painted with PPG. Let me encourage you to contact Ron Ballard. He is the gentlemen building the Cessna Twin Turbo Prop. He owns his own body shop. i will probably use ppg.. i use to own a body shop and that is what i used all the time. a little more expensive, but after all this work and expense. what is a couple more dollars.
have been working on the wing install points. will post some pictures tomorrow. i added a cross brace across the with of the fuselage it is 13 1/4 inches long 1/2 thick and 1 1/2 wide. i laminated 1/8 ply on both sides . the center is 1/2 balsa. this will give it the needed strength and make a good brace to bolt my center section too.
will post pictures of it tomorrow. Im using 1/4 20 nylon bolts to fasten center section with. its begining to look like a plane now., still lots of things to do and some to finish up on. im going to get a hvlp gun. it will be a gravity feed as for something like this, its easier to use.
i also have a air brush setup that i will use to do some of the final things and some trim. im will be using base coat clear coat. still not sure yet what colors. thought of white green with a shamrock on tail and luck of the irish on nose. but will decide when closer to that point.

was looking this morning and see that i have some socket head screws for the wing hold down.. going to use them.
Nylong would not be heavy enough for the amount of weight.

As you can see things are moving along. Will start putting in cockpit flooring then all the trim that goes in.
Also have to make all the windows. I have the trim that goes around the windows.;
about to the point that I will glue on the back half of the fuselage. hope will have it done some time this
winter so I can get back on other project.. Have two p38's . One to finish up and one to build for myself.

Al, thanks for the pictures, it's looking good. Just a thought, and you might not be finished in this area, but I would suggest plywood doublers notched to fit the cross piece that supports the two wing bolt pads. One on each end of the cross piece and epoxy those to the fuselage sides to help tie the wing bolt cross piece to the fuselage and spread the forces on this area around a little.
Like I said, you might not be finished in this area, I'm just throwing out a suggestion .

Al , Looking good . I am getting inspired . I might have to dust mine off and start working on it again as soon as I finish my BUSA Super Cub.
I had considered a wing bolt system very similar to yours with added hard balsa along the wing seat areas on both sides .

one thing im going to have to make is a couple of bushings.. the hole on the props are bigger the prop shaft on the engines. so will get the metal lathe going and make up a couple or put different engines on it. 26cc instead of the ones i have which are 23cc. then would have electronict ign. just something else to look at later.
i can remember when we use to build planes that only took a few days, but that was a long time ago. control line flying back then.
changed my jr radio over to 2.4ghz. could not see buying a new one when i just added a modlule and reciever. maybe wife will buy me new one for christmas.. he he he. a 12 channel would be nice.

got the braces installed on the cross memeber.. also got the cockpit flooring in place. now can work on the side panels and the dash. lots of cutting and fitting. will get everything cut and ready to put in place, then will paint it before installing everything in the cockpit.

not glassing yet, but it won't be long before i start. here are some pictures with the flooring installed and started to get the side ready to add.. have to paint them first then can install.. getting everything ready first then will paint and then install permently. started adding to the door and shaping the curve so i can get the hinges installed. have part of the seats put togeather. lots of painting to do on inside. trying to find some light carpet to install on the floor.

Al,looks like you have a bunch of detail work to keep you busy with the interior. I'm anxious to see how the instrument panel turns out. When I built mine I used a center fold picture out of a brochure for the Cessna 310. Luckily it was sized just about right, I cut it out and pasted it in. Instant instrument panel.
I think yours will be a lot better detailed.
