At Multis Over McDonough
It's Friday evening and here I am in the Comfort Inn after checking out the Henry County field. Met Robby and Ernest Fleming. I flew my Twin Stick while Robby was trying to get a couple of brand new Tiger Sharks in his bashed Twin Star running. There was a direct cross wind blowing in your face so not overshooting on landing took proir planning.
Nice field, paved runway and grass, too, if you like it. Covered pit area, starting tables. Really nice. We also took turns flying Ernest's Sig Mayhem. Just like mine, none of us could get what you could call a flat spin. The weather looks good for tomorrow so it ought to be fun. 9:00 til dark and nothing but twins. Brought my field charger. |

My gear is packed and ready to go. Abe will be riding shotgun, he's the only other flyer in our club with a multi-powered airplane. Its a couple hour drive from Augusta so we'll probably arrive a little after 9:00.
We may only be bringing two planes- but they are both twins! :D Walt |

I'm getting the first blow in.
Here's Big Ed (red & white) giving instruction to Robby (black) while Walt (behind of twin tail Twin Air fame) supervises. Hee hee. Actually, Robby wanted to fly my Cedra Hobbies Twin Stick-it is a fun plane-but I fly left handed (Mode 3). So we borrowed Walt's JR 9303 and copied the program over from my 8103. Robby was having to trim it out and learn where everything is on a JR. He flies that F brand and Walt and I have him out numbered. Robby's playing with switches and asking, "What's this switch do?" Walt is answering-his radio, remember. Meanwhile, I'm screaming, "Watch the damn airplane, Robby." It had the potential to be an "ethnic" fire drill. Be nice, they make all the airplanes. Twin Stick powered by 2 GMS .47s/ 11-5 APC props, coming by low. It's a Stick so everyone is surprised at how fast it goes. Twin Stick landing- it lands just like a Stick. Walk Kahres' prototype twin tail Twin-Air 45. Walk did the development work for the twin tail version of the Northeast Aerodynamics kit. 2 OS .46FX's with Ultra Thrust mufflers & APC 11-5 props. It sings. |

Line-up of Robby's planes: Cessna 310/ 2 OS .40 FSR, TwinStar modified/2 GMS .32's, Phoenix-a really bashed TwinStar/2 Tiger Shark .52's and Ernest Fleming's Bobcat Twin (A no longer in production kit)/ 2 OS 1.08's. Abe Fasch's Airmaster, pusher-puller canard. This is an Al Masters' design (of Dornier Do-335 fame). 2 ASP .46's. The canard bolts on like a wing. The servo is in the canard like a center aileron servo. |

Abe watches while Ernset Flemming, Robby check Ernest's JR PCM 10X and Walt looks on. Walt is thinking, "OK, Ernest, where are the hatches??" Ogk oh.

2 of Robby's TwinStars, both are modified, but one still has the stock color scheme. They have a longer, fiberglass nose, longer nacelles with longer, fiberglass covers, wider ailerons, elevator and rudder. The Teal one has 2 Tiger Shark .52's. The white, blue & black one had 2 GMS .32's.

Jim Brooks brought this big Burnelli UB-14 for show. It still isn't flight worthy, something to do with ground steering is off.
Vincent Burnelli, a Texan, by the way, designed lifting body airplanes where the fuselage was airfoil shaped. This one was circa 1930's. Here's a trivia, General Charles DeGaulle as his executive transport during World War II. |

I flew the Twin Stick so many times (5), I almost forgot I brought 4 planes. I did fly the Twin-Air and Outsider once each and the T-Raider twice.
Twin-Air 45 (blue) 2 Magnum .52XLS Outsider (yellow) Bashed Goldberg Tiger 2, 1 TT .46Pro & 1 TT .42GP T-Raider (gray) Bashed World Models Sky Raider, 2 kits into a twin fuselage a la P-82 Twin Mustang. 2 OS AX's. And I added a title to the Twin Stick picture. I had a great time. Over to you, Robby. |

My turn-
These guys were killing me! Both Robbie and Ed can flat-out fly R/C and they had a blast throwing the planes around, while I was very satisfied just doing basic maneuvers and finding the runway when landing! Seriously, I got to fly a bunch and I was very happy with the performance improvements that the U-thrust mufflers made on my Twin-Air. It was interesting having several examples of all three of the current "entry-level" sport twins out at the same time. A good opportunity for comparison, except not many of them were exactly in "stock" form. :D Thanks, Robbie for setting this up- I had a blast! And Ed, since its already programmed in my radio, if you get tired of the Twin-Stick you can just send it my way! Walt ....alright, now I HAVE to get the Deullist and P-61 up and flying by September... and the UPS man just delivered another huge box that I have to wrestle downstairs to my R/C shop.... |

Here are some more shots of my GMS .47 powered Cedar Hobbies Twin Stick. If you want to try twins and have a pair of .40-.52 engines, this is your starter kit. It only sells for $129.99+shipping. It is also a great knock around plane and it flies like a Stick. At that price you can make low passes and not worry about maybe killing an expensive airplane.
When you get yours, bring your field charger because your buddies are going to want to fly it. Robby bugged me for a hours before I got Walt to lend me his JR 9303 transmitter so Robby could fly mine. I fly Mode 3 (left handed). Actually,, It is *I* who want to thank all you guys for showing up, AND,, letting me
tear up,, errr, I mean fly your planes... Ed is correct.. That ole CH Stix is a total blast to fly... Walts twin tail Twin-Air was really kewl to fly.. SUPER stable and such a breeze.. When I return on the sixth I can post more pics and do a full report.... Ed,, we did get more on Sunday and after the weather cleared got in a few flights till about 9PM.... Yes,, it was dark... :) Somehow,, the programming for the Phoenix got wipped out on my TX so now I have to re-do the dang thing.. On of the Sunday guys, wo was there on Sat w/o his plane, bought another Twinstar on Monday cuz he dorked his on Sunday.. Not too bad, but needing repairs now.. He didn't want to wait for repairs so he bought one that one of the guys had there and now will have two going... Is this addictive or what .. :) :) Robby |

You got it, Robby. Flying two engines is too cool. I guess we are going to break our arms patting ourselves on the back.
Here are some more of Flaps' and my twins, past and present: Airmodillo Combat Twin-Coroplast and aluminum tubes. It was a trip. Flaps' electric prop-jet Me-262- Not enough power. Flaps' original design Starship twin pusher with 2 Magnum .30 4-strokes. We couldn't keep them both running all the time. (I don't like small engines). Westland Whirlwind, 2 Magnum .28's. Good plane. |

Here are out 2 seaplane twins.
Grumman Widgeon, 2 Magnum .52 4-strokes, ~60" span. It is pretty snappy and I snapped it into the water turning in to land. Not too much damage and Flaps has it in the queue to fix. Dornier Do-18, Magnum .80 4-stroke tractor and Magnum .30 pusher, ~80 inch span. Not yet test flown. As you said, it gets addictive. Once you try one, you can't stop. By the way, where was the guy who has the supersonic delta twin with 2 piped, rear exhaust engines? I wanted to see that little thing fly. Also has a Twin Fuselage Kaos. I wanted to take pictures of that one since I have a Kaos I am not flying so I can buy another one, extend the wing and use both fuselages. |
