Hi Tigercat Troops, Flew Saturday at the Fresno CA. Warbird Fly-in. Had some GREAT flights with High Speed runs and Aerobatics. The Event manager said my Tigercat was the most impressive aircraft there. I had the only big twin gasoline powered aircraft. There were some smaller electric powered twins but they were not crowd pleasers. My 2 Fuji 24s sound so COOL during high speed runs. I also have all of the landing gear doors functioning. They are servo operated and timed by a "Jet Tronics Door Sequencer". I'll enclose some pictures on this post and next post. Col. Chuck Winter

Hey Col Winter,

Your TC looks great! :D I just got my new gear from Sierra, and what a work of machining art!
One question, did you make that clamp that connects the nose gear to the cover linkage yourself, or did you have Darrell make it for you?
I haven't started on my TC as of yet, still gathering all the bits, but someday soon I hope!

Enjoyed reading your posts about this awesome plane,
Jai

Looking good! Today was a milestone for me as I finally got first taxi tests. I did have some issues with a wheel locking up which i have now fixed. The gear are not all that impressive but should work ok . One more full duration engine run on the Fujis and then the maiden is next. If I get a few good flights I will start on the main gear doors.

Great job Col.!
Glad to see she's still plying the CA skies.
We are almost finished with the engine change (Zenoah G-26's) on mine.
I'm just trying to decide whether to go ahead and do the Marine paint (Black n Red) since she's already down...
Will keep you posted
Regards,
Wally

Col, great to see the 'Cat is still running well. Thought I would post an inspirational pic of mine for all those that have had problems (mine was written of on its maiden) to keep them going on this great bird. 8 flights over the weekend. Spectacular weather here - summer has finally started..... :-)

Stunning shot, must get mine built this winter she has sat in the shed for about 3 years now, this one I will probably power with two DLE 23cc petrols, I flew the prototype with two RCV9!CD,s since then the weight of petrol engines has come right down, I want to aim for a similar final weight of about 22-23lb.

stoat 10-26-2010 01:50 PM

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat

The DLE's will be great! Mine is 26lbs with the 2 Evo 26's and goes like a rocket. Been meaning to shoot some video and pop it on touyube. It realy is a nice plane to fly. Next step it gear doors and some more weathering. Then a semigloss clear coat (dont like the flat finish).

Always told you Martin Petrols were the right way to go!!!!!! :D

H JAI, I made the bracket out of 1/4 aluminum stock. It took a little drilling, filing and taping. The 2 pieces clamp tight with 2 -2/56 bolts. I have a single cap head screw to insure the unit doesn't move. Not very hard to make. I hope you get a set of wheel brakes and actuator from Sierra Retracts. Col.Chuck Winter

The new gen 23 cc's are about the same weight as a comparable glow and they are cheaper and cheaper to run and make a lot less mess.

Success! Maidened today. Got a little behind on landing and broke out a gear - clean break though. A couple other minor fixes to do - but overall good 1st flight. Pics coming soon.

Well done chap! That seems to be a comon tale with this plane. Not surprising as it comes down like a stone under full flaps as the speed decays rapidly. I find the best option is to keep a fairly steep approach (about 45 deg) and flair at about 3 feet, then hold it off as long as possible pulling more and more elevator. Results in a perfect 2 point touch down every time. Dont reinforce the landing gear mounts too much as it will only transfer the load to the nacells and they are way harder to fix. Thought about putting flex plates in to give the U/C a bit more lateral give. Anyone else done this?

I did use the flaps and had a fairly steep approach but was late with the flare and was fighting the ailerons. It was , after all, the 1st landing. The structure looks strong enough but the rails were not aircraft ply quality and broke out too easily.

Nice shots! And a shiny one too... Lucky. I must have one of the few matte ones around. Doesn't look as good.

Now you just have to do your gear doors. I will be starting my doors this week. Fiddly but worth it.

Tigercat Guys, I took my Tigercat to our local model meeting to be a"Show and Tell". Many of the modelers had not seen my Tigercat or have not seen it since I have all of the landing gear doors functioning.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Here is a video of mine at Warbird Weekend 2010 in Trondheim, Norway, two months ago...
It took me two crashes and rebuilds to get there, but now she flies beautifully
