101" C-130 arf

Has anyone else seen this? The price doesn't seem bad either. Seems like everytime I turn around there's a new must have ARF!!!!

wowzerz! its hard to tell from the pic but it seems like its fixed gear with semi scal looking gear doors? Might be wrong but either way its a nic elooking airplane. Wonder if you could conceal the mufflers in the nacelles?

thanks for the pics kmot! Indeed appears to be fixed gear and setup for electric in the display? Might be easier to setup some inrunners for it

Retracts are optional. Here's another pic of the C-130 and one of the Black Widdow form the same range.

I ordered one yesterday. It will arrive late December, early January.

My local hobby store has the ASM Comet which looks to be a good quality plane. I'm hoping the C-130 is just as good.

I'll be going brushless. I plan to strip it back, recover and paint it in the RAAF colour scheme. (once again anothjer ARF that will take 6 months to build. lol)

yeah, this may be the christmas gift santa's going to bring me. Out of all of the new arfs coming out the size/price of this one is really turning me on. ProScale are you also ordering the retracts???

It wouldn't be a plane without them. lol

I will also be re-painting to 1967 vintage Southeast Asia USAF colors. Assume the wings are sheeted and filmed. Would like to just paint it all without removing any film. Bad idea?? The fuse looks like just carbon/f'glass painted. External fuel tanks are as an E-model (between engines). Retracts are available at $360.00. YIKES!

The wing, tail and fin are balsa built up and the fuselage and nacells are plastic (same as the other ASM kits).

AWOOD 12345:

Fuse and nacelles are plastic???...really don't like that idea...have you seen one fly?

msimi 11-16-2006 10:53 AM

RE: 101" C-130 arf

Not to worry about plastic nacelles. They are just engine covers after all. And there are all types of plastic. Could be that these are very strong and light. Check out this link for a video of this ARF in flight.

which engines are you running? Seems some 25fx's might do the trick

msimi, thanks for the video link. The plane looks great with the gear retracted on those low fly-bys!!!

Hey, thanx for the site on the video..really looks great..does anyone really know what engines were used and what the all up weight of the plane was, for test flights??...the video on the B-24 looks great also..wow. multi in ARF's...lookin good...

RE: 101" C-130 arf

I've flown the one in the picture I have attached. Its easy to fly and feels very light in the air. All the ASM stuff is plastic and I have flown most of them, they all fly great. The plastic helps keep the weight down, price down and still lets them add detail like panel lines.

Have not yet purchased my ARF C-130 but looking forward to the build. Although an ARF I plan to do some major detailing of the acft. as #61-2363 in SE Asia camoflage and open up the aft ramp/door.
Alan, is the wing structure able to handle the addition of flaps?

Kmot 11-17-2006 11:37 AM

RE: 101" C-130 arf

does anyone really know what engines were used
Based on the lack of engine 'noise' I would say that particular C-130 was electric powered.

RE: 101" C-130 arf

It was hard to get a clear look, but I couldn't make out any mufflers either. I'm wondering if 4 ST 40s would be the ticket for this thing. They run great and are very inexpensive. I wonder if the wings could take the extra weight.

The one I flew already has them! I'm pretty shure the production one has them aswell.

RE: 101" C-130 arf

I recommend FS30's for it, I did a aborted take off run with only 2 engine just to see if it would pick up speed (not advised, only testing purposes) and I recon it would maintain height on 2 engines.

40's would be too big and probably very tricky to fit into the cowls.

RE: 101" C-130 arf

If i get it, I'm going 4 GMS .32's. I've owned 3 of them in the past and not only do they have a TON of power but I never had a deadstick or problem getting any of them to run. They even hand started easy.
