Gday! this, the first jumbo jet foamy scale model that i will build to fly.This aircraft will have 15 degrees slotted type flaps and simultaneous landing gear retract and extending for landings and take offs(pondering the leading edge flaps). This is my second 747 the previous being a bit smaller and for display only, Its a bit of work making one of these with 4 engine nacelles to carve up and the complex/numerous gear bogies etc..Im planning topower it with only2 fans to keep costs realistic and weight down also with the outboard engines requiring a stronger heavier wing.I thought it would be deserving of this highly successful jet that i try to replicate as many of the moving parts as possible as the look of it in its different configurations is testament toitshulking yet slender design.The flap system will be the scale slotted type which will better utilise the thrust of the inboard enginesto produce more lift and slower landings, Im using a 4 channel radio one for flaps and landing gear i think this will be worth the effort cause it will reduce drag giving more duration,and provide a slower, scaleand less "nerving" landing,one throttle, one alieron and nose wheel, and the fouth elevator.

There are several jumbos available but none that have the true scale apperance/finish u can get with a shaped body, and functioningcomponents, hopefullythis setup could prove succesfull andapealingto more people and maybe produce several different versions of the jumbothrough a mould.

The fuselage was tacked together with pva for moulding, I split it open and hollowed the inside out.

Hi , im planning to coat it with a layer of pva glue then finsh it with normal spray paint from the can. I really need to keep weight down as the many components contribute to more weights, wheel bogies nacelles,etc..

What kind of foam is that?

I have been working with the blue
house building styro to make plugs
for wheel pants for my full size. It
doesn't sand smooth, at all, compared
to what you've got.

I have rough sanded the two mains,
but I still have to cut, shape & sand the
nose wheel plug.

Let me know. I may redo the mains if
your foam works that much better.

Hey thanks, the foam im using is the normal styrofoam, i puchased it in a 1.2m by 2.4m by 50mm size board from a matress shop is widely available i believe. Very easy to sand.

This jets almost ready to fly im only waiting on these damn edfs to arrive! cannot believe out of most of the main hobyy shops here there are no edfs in stock hah!! hopeless.., the current weight is 380grams and the thrust is 144grams total from 2 units i hope this is sufficient im not looking for high performance just get it flying.
