i wonder if its possible to build an rc edition of the bell [link=http://www.geocities.com/anigrand/X-22.html]x 22[/link] i would think it would be pretty easy to build it could be flown on a 4 ch radio at minimum 2 chanels for the power to each side of the air craft, and the other 2 to rotate the fans...i was looking at the edf units for the mini rc helis and thought i could use 4 of those for the power and 2 micro servos and put all of these into a styrofoam fusealage....any ideas or help would be appreciated.

RE: V/STOL
Were you thinking electric? or nitro? Sounds like a neat project, but it definitely has the potential to get very very complicated. Would roll be controlled by speeding up fans on one side and not the other, or some other method? What about pitch, speed up fans in the front, or use an elevator? Would you mount another engine on the front, to produce forward thrust, or do you want to make the fans rotate? If so, how are you going to keep that thing in the air when the fans are at a 45 degree angle, and aren't providing enough thrust to keep it aloft, and there is not enough forward motion to allow it to fly in a conventional manner?
I'm not trying to sound discouraging, but to me it seems there are a lot of hurdles to jump, and could get VERY complicated. I don't know all that much about the full sized one, but I'm sure they had a hard time solving some of the many problems of this hybrid type of flight. It is a really neat project though, and would enjoy hearing what you have in mind! Good luck! |

Laso, you have to have all four of the fans operating at exactly the same speed, that rules out nitro. I have to admit that this is a lot simpler than a V-22 osprey, because there is no collective involved.

RE: V/STOL
Im working on a VTOL craft now, in a week i should have my first attempt finished. At the moment it is real simple... like always: Start simple :D. I can post test movies of it when im finished and hopefully we could share ideas to make a really good VTOL craft.
