I couldn't find anything on skirt design. I know how they float on a cushion of air and stuff but I was just wondering what you guys use for a design of it. Anyone have a hovercraft with underside pics?? I'll search more after this post. Thanks!

i cut up a black garbage bag and taped it on, doesnt look to bad

then you cut small holes in for the air to escape, not to big or it wont float but not too small or it will get to big
experiment cut a few and try it, cut a few more if you have to and you can always put a piece of tape over the holes

her is a picture of mine:

it'll still float if there's enough pressure being blown into the bottom.. I gotta get some pics of mine that I built I have the whole center section open underneath. I have an idea of how to build it better I just haven't had time to do it yet. I'll post pics sometime though.

the best thing for skirt material is rip stop nylon also known as kite material as for the desin of a skirt it depandes on what sort of skirt you want to mke a simle bag skirt is simple to make but does require some complex maths by far the most simple skirt iss not tohave one smae as the origonal SRN1 http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...n%26safe%3Doff sorry for the long link if you contact me via email i may be able to put you in touch wiht some sfirt expets my address is [email protected] as for pic of the underside see attchments as for attching the skirt to the modle double sided tape can be used for the skirt to underside for the deck and to attch the skit to the bottom of the deck duct tape can be used a good place to start wiht modle hovercraft is http://www.model-hovercraft.com/2000tdx/2000tdx.html the plans are free while you are building it you can join the MHA http://www.modelhover.org/

Fran Oakey has written a skirt design document that covers the design of Bag skirts.
It can be downloaded from my web site at
www.rc-hovercraft.com

The file will be found in the download section.

The web site also gives details of bulding several versions of Mark Porters Griffon 2000 design as well as 100's of photos of several full size hovercraft taken with scale modellers in mind.

In respect of the ideal material to use for skirts I have found that ripstop nylon is ideal for small models but plyurethane coated polyester nylon is the best for larger models.
In the Uk it is sold as tenting ground sheet and comes in 2oz and 4 oz versions.

The current skirt on my yellow Griffon(see my web site) was fitted four years ago, never lets in water, and has not been removed at all in that time.
The wear characteristic of the material is excellent with no wear even though a lot of operating is on concrete and tarmac.
