Default ACE 120 Turbine Engine from Austars

Hi to all, I am a new poster on RCU but long time modeller (30 years +) and the last 6 years flying turbine jets as well as giant scale and everything else!

The review is for the ACE 120 turbine engine, now available from Austars Models in Australia. This is a great company to deal with and have been around a number of years supplying quality products.

The ACE 120 is manufactured in mainland China and is a development of engines the company have been making for some time under the Swiwin name. The ACE 120 appears as a well developed product and comes complete with all accessories needed to run, including ECU, GSU, pump, filter, manual valve and fuel tube. You need supply a 3S battery (LiFe or LiPo) and connect to your radio.

The photo below is of the engine on my test rig. It is a very well finished engine with a fully machined CNC compressor and cool polished starter motor cover supported on aluminium struts from the front housing. No plastic parts on this engine other than the fuel and electrical plugs!

The engine has some great features:

Small size (102mm diameter)
Low weight (1400 g engine only)
Built in fuel solenoids (only one connection between pump and engine)
Auto restart feature
New fuel pump with bubble-suppressing feature
High resolution colour GSU screen with simple menus
Very simple set up of engine with accessories
Super fast spool-up times

The engine is up there with the best on size and weight and the other features help make it an attractive offering.

I really like the fast throttle response. This will be great for those last-minute go-rounds and similar situations. I have run the engine through 20 or so cycles on the test stand and it is very simple to operate. It starts up super clean (no flames) which is reassuring for enclosed installations.

I will be posting more on this engine including videos soon.

A video of the engine running can now be found at https://youtu.be/QjaTwnIY9JU. We demonstrate a startup of the engine and the auto-restart feature. Also the quick acceleration of the turbine. Check it out!

Austars is distributor in Australia and perhaps other regions outside US.
Price is US1990 or thereabouts (check their website).
The engine is smaller and lighter than competitors at this price level.

The Ace engine is listed at this site. http://www.globaljetclub.com/TURBINE...ES/ACE-Turbine
I found this site because a friend bought the Ace 60 and there were no instructions with it and I was trying to find help to "teach" the engine.

We were able to get help from the engine guy at Global.

We test run his ACE 60 twice. The first start we got a little flame but probably over primed it. The second run was very clean.

AV8RMick,
Do you know the name of the manufacture?. I tried to find it when we were looking for help.

Now I remember seeing the 60 size that Global had at KY. As a matter of fact I asked them about a larger size. The other name for this brand is Swiwin or Fox.

Good video. Some questions:

What batteries were used: The screen mentioned 11.1v - what is what. Also the 6.3v - what is that?
Will it take diesel and kerosene?
Oil - is it 5% or 3%?

Thx,
Chet

Thanks Chet.
11.1 is ECU battery voltage (3S Lipo, I was using 4000 mAh but you could use down to 2200 if you want). 3S LiFe is also supported.
6.3 is Rx battery voltage (I use 2S LiFe but any Rx battery is supported).

This info from Austars website: (I have corrected weight - engine only is 1400g which is still much lighter than Kingtech and same as Jets Munt)

Diameter:100mm
Length:262mm
Weight:1400g
RPM Range:36,000 - 125,000
Thrust:12Kg
Maximun consumption:320ml/min
Fuel Type:Kerosene/Diesel/Jet A1
Lubrication:5% Mobil Jet oil
Maintance:25Hr
