Default Review of OS .40 FX

When I started in this hobby with .40-size engines, my main fear, and the reason for several mishaps, was engine failure at "inconvenient" times.

Last year I decided to build another .40-size kit (I usually do larger ones) and bought an OS.40 FX. I followed the included directions for break-in, running, and tuning, and I must tell you it's been the best .40 sport engine I ever had.

A variety of props will work. I like the APC 10/8 on mine, and I use 15% fuel.

There are more powerful, "hotter" engines, but this one starts easily, is both quiet and reliable, and ran that way, right out of the box, from day one. I've replaced ONE glow plug, after runnning 10 gallons of fuel through it, and that's it. Nothing ever came loose or got out of adjustment from vibration or the few "firm" landings I had with it.

Interestingly, the .46, which I believe uses the same crankcase, simply bored out, is actually lighter than the .40

If you're looking for a reliable engine, (especially if you're new to this hobby, and need one for your trainer) I have to highly recommend this engine. OS continues to stand for quality. (I don't work for them, or have any affiliation with them... This is an honest review.)
