CB100 first impression
 

We just got the delivery for the CB100 with the new 2402 tx. I gave it a quick try and it is very easy to fly. With the 45 degree rotor and the flying weight makes it very suitable for people which would like to move up from the co-axial heli. And it feature twin brushless motors so you do not need to worry about burn out motor again. :)

I sure hope its a better flyer the 4#3b Brushless that I have had for 6 months.
After 6 months I can hover for 5-10sec then the 4#3 becomes a wild mouse and is uncontrolable.
I am at the point of calling it unflyable and a total waste of $'s.

Recently purchased a E Flite MSR and it flys great, and is very stable. What a joy..

Sorry I don't have a MSR so I can't compare the cb100 to it. But if you compare it to the 4#3 it is sure a lot easier to fly. From people which have the MSR I believe you should like the CB100. :D

Walkera has some nice products, many influenced by earlier ones that didn't have the momenetum that Walkera has built up upon. Each heli offers its own level of fun and excitement in stock or modified forms.

Do a good research on both helis, each one has pros depending what you are looking for in a helicopter, performance, crashability are most important, to most people, but also looks if you are looking for more realistic or cool features. But don't put the MSR off... check out this video...

Can the CB100 fly off carpet? The reason I ask is it is small and has a tail rotor that is protected by the rear fin/stabilizer. If it does a bit of a tail wag or movement on take-off it will dig in and flip over. At least that is what my larger 4G6 does. I am thinking that for carpet use the CB180 might better?

No problem I have flown 4#3, 4#3A, 4#3B, 4G3 all off carpet and all have the same wire skids, you will find the CB100 much easier to handle than the 4G6, with the more stable head its much better for a beginner but still needs a tad of right cyclic when lifting, with the 4G6 it may be best for you to use a couple of straws as trainers while you get the hang of it, like all shaft driven tails the gears are very easily damaged if snagged, Also a square of cardboard will make a fine helipad if you find carpet a problem.

EVERY Walkera is difficult to get off of carpet, so, you get MIA skids instead. The stock skids are just about useless, IMHO, and have to go. The tail needs to be protected better than it is. You need a few tail rotor blades as spares because the plastic is thin and breaks easily.
The CB 100 is much easier on your brain than the 4#3b. I had one for a couple of weeks and had to get rid of it. All I ever did was work on it to try to get it to fly better. I am more than disappointed with the 2402 transmitter. It offers you nothing over the 2401 and is heavier. The batteries are 500mah and 15C instead of 400mah and 10C and that, for some reason makes them twice as big and it takes twice as long for them to charge.
I wanted something that had a little more heft to it so I could fly it outside in nice weather as well as inside during the Winter. I think this is a drawback with teh MSR. It seems too light for outside.

I ordered it with 2801pro TX which came "test flown" (on wrong TX I think) with pitch backwards which was a good lesson to preflight any aircraft. First flight in small hallway was lesson in paying attention and over riding reflexes. I saw the S plate level and was happy to trust first pilot's setup. After I reversed servo for 3rd flight and trimmed it I was flying it without incident but darn if brand new aircraft first time flight attention didn't throw off my throttle hand reflex for an equal period of time getting up and down back in sync. All in all the CB100 flies great as reported and I am really glad I got it.

I have decided electric heli TXs should have the throttlespring loaded for safety and the force curve exaggerated for position location feedback with a different level ofincreasing clicks and maybe a few noticeable clicks that can be adjusted. The spring part of that is easy enough to do. It&rsquo;s just too easy to accidentally have the rotors turn on by accident. On larger elec helis and planes this seems more than reasonable so I'm going to add a light return spring to the throttle and get out a file and mark center stick location to start with.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">E.W. I purched the CB100 the tail is a PITA.

I don't understand the logic in how the motor mounts to the tail.

Do they really think nobody crashes these helis?

Now i'm waiting on the 4#6

Hi E.W.

One thing you do not want on a heli is a spring loaded throttle. Most ccpm heli's are set up to have negative pitch when the throttle is below about 50% so that it will hold on the ground. If the throttle was spring loaded and you let go, the heli would come crashing to the ground with not very good results. Maybe on a fixed pitch heli it would work out?

I have tried to fly with a clicking throttle, but it always seems that one click is too much and one click down is too little. I removed the throttle click from all my transmitters. Much better.

Holiday orders and first month of New Years are normally busy times for MIA. You should have received a response.

That MD500 fuse looks wicked. How easy would it be for a monkey like me to fit it to the CB100? Are instructions included? Do I need a lot of kit building experience? Or does it simply bolt on?

Yes its for FP CB 100 now but that's a good point to pay attention to as that will change. The spring load needs to be so lowwww at the bottom you hardly notice it, just enough to hold the stick down and keep the elec motor off and the click point absolutely needs is own trim like you said. This unfortunately is a job for the manufacture. I was surprised the Walkera 2801 feels so good and can only imagine how nice the new high-end 2k DB gimbal Futabas have gotten and feel in response.

Imagine a flight button on the TXthat when pushed and let go placed the hold point at the current stick position in a single axis. You could effertlessly change trim as the battery drains or you change your flight mode where the friction of the hold is adjustable to zero as well. Just put it exactly where you want it. I'd use it on both sticks in wind now that I think of it without a spring attached to elevator. <span style="">

I am reading some say lightening the fly bar weights makes the CB100 "less stable." Agree, but dosn't it also reduce blade pitch responce as well? Seems you want the weight so when you give fast control pitch changes under high load the blades pitch changes, not the fly bar axis the blade pitch is relative to. Never had a 45 degree flybar before but seems it would need more weight or pivot moment in favor of the fly bar than 45 degree bar which it seems to have with a lot of damping. Like to read up on design.
