I believe the turrent ring was to small to upgrade the gun, so the Panzer III was reduce to infanty surport tank.

The Pz III Ausf M Sturmpanzer was set up with the 75mm howitzer as an assault tank, but no HV HV 75s. The best was the long 50mm which proved very effective.
