RE: color schemes

A very good question..

I bought a Tamiya King Tiger sunday and it's in desert yellow which don't look bad--they came out of the factory in this color..however most King Tigers I have seen drawings or pictures of have this tri-color of yellow, red-brown and green.. some I have seem with field green and Yellow..

I'm trying to figure out what to paint mine.

"Panzer Colors" with #2 and #3 and "Tiger in Action" by Squadron Signal, and "The Tiger Tanks" from Osprey Vanguard are all good with many Tigers in action on all fronts. All show unit markings which would be critical in matching your color scheme with your tank.
Don't get hung up on exact colors, as there were many variations in colors due to materials used to mix the paint issued. Panzer grey was fairly uniform as they came from the factories with the designated paint. Panzer Yellow is a good base for Russia but was also varried in shade. Panzer Yellow for the Afrika Korps was lighter, but then was always covered in a coat of yellow dust which made them all look alike. Camo patterns were definately different from France, southern Germany to the Balkans and Russia.

Here are some. [link]http://www.alanhamby.com/paint.html[/link]
There are alot of references like this on the web. Keep in mind most are someones idea of what they think the paint looked like. Even original color pictures have faded, been printed from a slide, look different on different computer screens, etc, etc. Tanks in museums have been painted over many times.
When it comes down to it, paint what you like. You have to look at it. As far as mine goes.. when a veteran panzer commander tells me the color is wrong, then I'll listen.

Testors has four basic German tank colors:

* Panzer Schwarzgrau RAL 7021
* Panzer Dunkelgelb 1943
* Panzer Schokoladenbraun
* Panzer Olivgrun 1943

There is also a whole line up of other German colors: [link]http://www.testors.com/tes_cds/color_charts/4600_MM_(Acrylic).pdf[/link]
