t-81 tracks
 

Anyone know who makes T-81 single pin tracks for the Pershing? I'm contemplating getting another M-26 and building a super Pershing. Saw some on the internet a while ago but now can't find them. Also looking for a 1;16/18 Sherman at affordable prices for my museum. Planning on doing an "activated" diorama at that scale and all I have for US is my Pershing.

I was thinking of getting a set myself someday, but man, you could buy two tanks at that price! But of course you'd be the only guy on the block with T-81s! And the Super Pershign just wouldn't look right without them!

Hi James thanks, but OUCH!!!!
Are these metal tracks made of titanium with platinum pins? I really had to sit back and take a second look at the price. Unbelievable!
Which brings up another question...anynone making plastic T-81's? My 1;35 Pershing has T-81 tracks, but they are the individual block type, which I don't like to work with....but for the Super Pershing static display, I'll live with it. I have two sets of HVSS T-84 track for Easy 8 Sherman that are just sitting in the box. I decided to use some extra double pin track I had laying in my parts box rather than hassle with these single block tracks.

Guess my "truly authentic" Super Pershing look is going to be put on hold unless I can find some reasonable tracks. Just got througn reading "Another River, Another Town" and am all hiped up to make Super Pershings. Next is to find the right size stuff to lengthen the HL gun tube.

Even the Backyard Armor price is steep. I might just do it someday though, not anytime soon. Isn't that a great book?

James, thanks for recommending the book. I was really engrossed in it. I sent a letter to Irwin thru the publisher as there was no phone listing in the town listed in the book. Hope I get a reply....and hope he is still around.

Anyone out there got some Tiger tracks they'd turn loose cheap? I have a second Tiger due in and will do this with Zimmerit and mount the spares on the turret and leave the Feifel and dustbin cupola in place. I'll have to scatch build the mounting hardware, since the stuff they sell is so pricey. I have another gun extension and set of slow speed motors ordered. I installed the gun extension and now my 88 won't spit the BBs. Wanted to send a couple photos of my Tiger with "natural " camo, but the site says they are too large.

A [link=http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=6634&threadview=0&hilight=&hil ightuser=0&page=1]Super Pershing[/link] has also been done by our German tinkerers but it appears a simple straight length of aluminum tubing was used for the extended barrel. I cannot see all of it but it doesn't appear to have the right taper. This piece could be milled by a machinist or someone who owns a lathe.

Harq, Thanks for the link. I have the German sites on my computer and I speak German, but this guy must have all the time in the world to mold and make his own track links. Was also considering trying a German track, but although closer than the double pin, it's still not right. Looking at the later Super Pershings, (Dick Hunnicut's Pershing)they were fitted with internal turret equilibrator springs and dbl pin chevron track and has an oval loaders hatch, but everyone is more familiar with the one combat veteran from the 3d AD.

On the gun, I have that all set. I have the gun off the Pershing I converted to M-45, and have it marked for cutting to add to the new Pershing I got for convert to super P. Length and taper fit nicely.

Seems all I have to do is build the counterweight for the turret rear, make a split hatch for the loader, make the two equilibrator springs for the mantlet and add the gun extension.....then hassle with the track vs $$$ thing. The 1;35 scale has a Verlinden conversion kit that is nice, but the larger scale is nicer to work with....and it runs.

The_Stuff: That fella certainly ain't joking around. Those Germans are over the top as far as overachieving goes.

Maybe if that German fellow could be contacted, he could make you up a set of tracks unless of course he's already in the business of doing so.

I had determined, in another thread, that the T80E1 were used in WWII contrary to what is usually believed. But the only "Super P" that I've seen (the 3AD one) is riding on the single pin T81 tracks.
