Tiger numbers
 

hiya I'm new here I joined the forum specifically for the tank lot :D

I have a question regarding Tiger 1 numbers, I have a very dismantled Heng Long in front of me about to recieve a suspension and gearbox upgrade, but I tire slightly of seeing the number 3818 all over the net. Nothing wrong with it but I'd like mine to have a different number to everyone else's.

Can please you direct me to a site telling me which numbers are appropriate for a early production Tiger 1 such as the HL Tiger?

When I've put it all back together I'll send a pic in. So far other than dismantle it the only work done on it is to rotate the cupola the right way round.

How accurate do you want to be? Different units that had the early production tigers numbered them differently. Also the time frame may affect style and placement of the numbers not to mention the color of the tank.

there are all sorts of places with tiger tank decals for sale. You should be able to find ones on ebay for sale. ($5-$10)

I just saw a nice complete set of decals at www.creepingdeathrc.com. Large sheet of numbers as well as unit markings. I was looking at their Tiger, but if you look at the left side of the page you'll see a few accessories.

I want it to be reasonably accurate. I found a site which explains all and has pictures so I don't get it wrong. I'm looking on ebay now for numbers.

haha! Take your time. Once you've done it a couple of times you could do it with your eyes closed.

And I've won lol.

As soon as the gearboxes arrive tomorrow I shall put it all back together and go for a test thrash in the war zone (I mean garden).

At the moment the only things I've done are put new gearboxes in (pending) and put metal suspension arms on. I also put in some of those strengthening frames in anticipation of putting metal wheels/sprockets/idlers/tracks on. Basically enough to stop me wrecking it in the garden. Those clutches grinding hurt my ears!

But I've run out of money for that lol.


And yes your right. I reckon I could do another of these minus instructions now (which is where things would go wrong!)

All you need now is to lengthen the barrel and upgrade the airsoft unit

would you believe I actually was planning on that? I found some ready sprayed barrel lengtheners on ebay in all the HL major colours. A grey one of them and I'm laughing. Where can you get upgrade parts for the airsoft?

I did indeed thrash the newly re-assembled tank today. Its a lot louder than it was with the plastic gears!

Its running very well indeed, as soon as I've got the barrel lengthener, and re-numbered it, I'll take some pics of it. No point now, it still looks like a plain HL at the moment :)

these tanks should carry a health warning. Fortunately I was able to see at the time that if you are going to upgrade it to metal bits, it really is a good idea to buy all the relevant bits (I'm thinking suspension strengthening frames) for each area. When I get the metal tracks, I'll get the wheels and sprockets at the same time.

You have to upgrade the units yourself. I use a heavier guage spring and a spacer to increase the guns tension. I also replace the inner barrel with a tighter bore one. I"ve gotten as high as 250fps on one of my guns (stock HL tank will shoot about 75-90 fps) I used to sell them on ebay (airsoft gun/lengthened barrel) so all you had to do was install the gun/barrel combo and you were off to the races.

I just ordered a barrel extension so might have that installed by next week.

the thing that bothers me with these numbers is this. I want to try and keep my HL within the default models year (so no major mods or a repaint) but I'm worried I will end up ordering a set of transfers for a completely inappropriate vehicle that was painted in desert sand colours or something.

Which year does the HL Tiger represent? From my own research I would say mid 1942 but you guys are the experts, so if you could confirm that for me I would be very grateful.

I'm looking at these transfers, but as I say, they only give dates, no livery info.

Here is an option. The HL tiger is the early version (1942-1943) There are alot of options for it. I believe these numbers would go with the geramn Grey tank
