Default 50cc Sukoi wing tube question

Hello,

I just flew my new Honda schemed Sukhoi this past weekend, flew great. Question on wing tube. I have a CF tube left over from a Yak that was midaired and the diameter is perfect but is about 2 inches shorter than stock tube. Would it be okay to use this tube anyway even though it is a tad shorter?

Thanks

Z

I cannot say for certain, but it will probably be fine. The problem is if it slides to one side or the other, then it's 2 inches hort on one side which is not good. IF you keep it centered it will probably be OK, but I give no guarantees.

This is just a stupid idea probably, what if you tapped the tube through in the fuse wing tube slot and bolted it there. If you can understand that then just something stupid I thought of.

Probably not a good idea to be drilling holes in carbon where there's no boss to provide additional strength or transfer stress risers induced by the hole.

Figure the plane is worth close to a couple grand. Do you place enough value on the plane to buy another wing tube? Which is less expensive, another plane and all the equipment or a wing tube?

I like my planes and don't like to see them shed wings in the air so I get a new tube for each plane and fit each one.

Well, in all honesty this plane floats as it is so I would say the answer is just keep the stock aluminum tube. It was just a tube that, as mentioned, was laying in my pile of spare parts and I wanted Tom's opinion.
Thanks

I had the same issue when I lost the tube on my Cap. after repairing the wing I was looking for a replacment tube when I found The tube from my vertion 1 edge. I glued a 1" piece to each end of my tube. Ide imagine you could use just about anything for a spacer I just happened to have a section of tube that wasnt bent after destroying the left wing of my cap.

Incredible! How did you manage to only get the left wing and a bit of the cowl? I love my Cap! I converted it to a mid wing KAP and never looked back. I'm not looking forward to the day when she goes in, but also realize that it is coming.
