Default Wild Hare Extra 260

I just bought an Extra 260 with a Doc 53 and canister muffler and do not plan to cut any holes in the cowl. So I need to know how big a hole I need in the bottom of the fuse and will I have any issues with over heating? Any advise is welcome, thanks in advance, Rick

Keep the hot air around the engine with nowhere to go and you will always have problems with over heating. Cosmetics can become real expensive real fast.

By the way, the engine will not fit in the cowl without a place for the head to be- I believe this is a slightly re-designed version of the 300, and I have the 300- I also believe the cowl and such is the same- just cut for the head, and the a little bit of play-room around it, and leave it be-(see the pic ) the opening you will be cutting in the lower fuselage will no doubt be enough exit area, and the air flowing through it will keep the canister tunnel cool as well as the canister itself- You'll realize that it really doesn't look all that bad in the air, and you can barely see it while its on the ground- Also, most of the people checking it out could care less, cause they will be jealous.....

Yes you are right, I have not mounted the motor yet so I thought the cowl was big enough to contain the whole motor, but after looking again I seen l will have to cut bottom out for the motor, this will take care of the cooling. Thanks

Da measure from the firewall to the front of the cowl + 1/8" for space between cowl and spinner.
Then measure from the motor mount to the front of the back plate for the spinner subtract the difference is how long the standoffs have to be, simple

Thinking of getting the 30% 260 for IMAC. Just moving into sportsman, have limited funds and need a good scale flier. The fuse seems a little short for tracking but the proof is in the pudding. Thanks for any comments or advice.[8D]

I just finished a plane that weighs 16.4 pounds. If you are getting 19-20 lbs then either you are using a 6 pound engine or someone has hidden several large books inside.

Seriously, check your scale.

I have a BME 50 on cannister and dual NiMh Rx packs and I'm at 18lbs even. The plane is fantastic even at 18lbs.

The Smartfly and all it's appendages massively overdoes the electrical system on a 50cc plane. Minimum to safely drive everything except the engine is one battery, one receiver, and one switch if you use good products. Add for the weight generated by making new mounts for this and that and the weight climbs quickly.
