Looks great on the website. How does one get on the list?

Send email to [email protected].

I'll put you on the list and notify you when the planes leave the factory.

24" prop?

Is the landing gear tall enough to hold a 24" prop and is it built to accomdate a canister muffler/pipe? The add claims its aimed at new to large planes crowd. Will it 3D and still be smooth for IMAC?

It has about 3" clearance with a 22" prop with the tail wheel on the ground. When the tail comes up there will obviously be less. It should be ok with 24" prop on pavement, no guarantees if you fly off deep grass or really bumpt ground. The wheel pants are large, if you need more clearance you could put on bigger wheels or just have TNT landing gear make a new gear that's an inch or so taller, cheap solutions.

There's really not enough room for a canister unless you find another place to put the gas tank. I used a G62 with a bisson wraparound muffler on the prototype and it's very quiet.

Doing 3d involves primarily a change of control surface throws. If you want to do both use good servos and a good radio with dual or triple rates. You should be able to switch between smooth-pattern mode and go-wild 3d mode.

Maybe this is a silly question, but any chance that the plane is unlimited w/ a G-62?

Not a silly question at all. Yes, the prototype that I have been flying has a G62, Bisson wraparound muffler, and CH electronic ignition. It is most definitely not limited in any way. It will pull up out of a hover, go vertical at good speed until it's out of sight, and the G62 is very well behaved and quiet.

I always thought the G62 was kind of a weak sister, but I'm now a convert, in the Edge 540T the G62 performs extremely well. And from what I understand there is more power in there that can come out through careful tuning and maybe a few parts.

And the thing is as reliable as stone.

Why did you choose the G62 instead of say the DA 50 or ZDZ 50?

I chose to test with the G62 because I wanted the plane to support that engine well. There are thousands of G62s out there and really no good planes for them. THe smaller ones in the 78-80 inch class don't have enough wing area to carry that heavy engine. The bigger ones like our Giles are just a little too big to do 3d stuff with a G62.

I know that the DA-50 and ZDZ-50 are much lighter, and that if it flies well with the G62 it will do fine with the lighter engines. The big question was how would it do with a 4 1/2 pound engine in front, and it did fine.

Will there be any problem balancing the plane with a BME 50?

RCTom:

In a post outside of the 'Wildhare Support' you said, "I am finishing up assembling the plane shown in the picture with a DA-50 and Bisson wraparound muffler. It weighs right at 16 pounds if I have everything up correctly."

I'm starting to become very interested in this plane (and very tired of waiting on another companies claims of shipping soon from China).

What I would like to know is the details of your setup with the new Edge and the DA-50 . Things like, did you use a pull-pull on the rudder to make it balance. If not and you left the servos in the tail, was it possible to balance with batteries, etc? Is there a chance of getting pictures on the web (here) of the insides of the Edge setup? (With a DA-50 and a G-62?) I'm sure others would love to see this, as would I. I know your a busy guy so I don't expect results yesterday, but something like the pictures in a weeks time or so would be great, if possible (and I would understand if not possible).

Also, (last question for now) is the projected date still around November and if so can a simple email save one with deposit , or haven't you guys got that far yet?

Thanks!

The plan with the plane is to have it so that it will balance with a DA 50 and pull-pull rudder, elevator servos in the tail.

The rudder servos can be installed in the tail (one or two) to offset a heavier engine, or simply add a few ounces of lead back there to get it just the way you want it.

With a long tail moment like this plane has, it only takes a little ballast to make a big change, but it's important that it not be real tail heavy to start with since it takes 3 to 4 times as much nose weight to offset tail weight.

I am just finishing up the DA-50 installation, I'll post a couple pictures here but I may be able to do a better job on the web site.

The actual best solution will be to read the manual, which I hope to have done by the end of this month.

We are still on track for shipping out to customers in November, although we have never hit the exact date yet. I'm almost certain about November, early or late is still subject to change.

Thanks.

There should not be any problem with a BME 50. They are light, but the plane is designed to accept a light engine. Setup will be similar to a DA-50, pull-pull rudder, batteries toward the front, no big deal.

The projected ship date from the builder to me is Oct. 10. That can, and usually does, slip a little.

It takes 30 days to get here from the builder.

Tom, I'm realy interested in your new Edge. I've been looking at the Aeroworks 31%. They say their plane was designed for the G62 but will handle up to a 4.2ci. I have new Brison 4.2 that I'm trying to find a home for. I'm guessing it might be too large for your plane?

You are the second person to ask about this. A Brison 4.2 is pretty heavy and powerful. The plane is built strong, but I give no guarantees with anything larger than a G62.

The reason here is that with that much power it would be easy to overstress something unintentionally. However if you fly with some restraint (no full throttle except in vertical uplines, no power on blenders, etc.) it will probably last a long time.

That engine also shakes a lot, if you do use it use servos with good strong metal gears, particularly on the ailerons.

I bought the engine to go on a Big Hots that I've yet to finish. I have also thought about selling it and going with the new DA 50. I plan on using digital metal gear servos. How many are needed on the new Edge?

Hey Tom, I called and talked to your WIFE? (i assumed she was) and reserved an edge 540. I noticed that on your webpage it is requiring a credit card for reservation. I did not give a credit card #( I was not asked for one). I just want to make sure that my reservation will be held for me. I reserved it under the name of SEAN RUSHING

Can you make sure that I am on your list of reservations?

Thanks

The edge needs one servo for each elevator half, one for each aileron, and one for rudder, plus throttle and maybe choke.

Changing to a DA 50 is a good idea with the Edge, or change to a Giles and keep the 4.2, that would be a good combo.

Here's the way it works. We will be shipping in the order that we receive payments. Some people are putting down deposits to get an early shipment position.

Reserving a plane does not require a deposit. Each request to get on the list is logged by date, and I will notify all those people when the planes leave the factory so they can give us payment, but anyone is free to put down a deposit early to get a plane sooner. Anybody who has requested to be on the list will get their plane at the $399 price, but we can't ship everything in one day.

Does this make sense?

Tom,
Will the folks who make deposits now be "fast-forwarded" on the "want to buy" list in receiving an airplane? It was my understanding that folks would be called when you are advised the first batch is shipping. We then would have an opportunity to issue credit card deposit or payment. Please just clear that up a little.
Thanks,
Jerry
