Engine and servo recommendations for Edge 540??

Hi All,

I have a deposit on the new Wild Hare Edge 540T, and this plane will be my first large gaser! I'm looking for servo recommendations for a plane of this size (brand, model), and also for who has the best price on a new G62?? Any ideas??

Thanks,

John

John, you may want to check with Chief. Last I saw, they had G-62's *shipped* for $350. Get the "monthly specials" by entering your e-mail at the top of the Cheif web-page to get this price (I don't think it's on the website-- probably MAP related nonsense).

Have fun with the Edge!

I know that the engine forum is probably the best place to ask this question but since the G-62 is a recommended engine for this plane----What size prop and how fast does it turn with the G-62??? Power wise, how does the G-62 stack up against other engines in the 55 to 70cc catagory. (Like, say a ZDZ-60??) If the power is roughly the same then I guess that weight is the only drawback to the G-62. If that is the case then the engine could be converted to ignition. I'm not trying to hijack your thread...I just have the same questions as you.

The G62 seems to be performing slightly better than a DA 50 on the same plane. HOwever the DA 50 is new and the G62 has a little time on it. I did not tach it, but it feels like around 7000 rpm on a Mezjlik 22-10, which is what Zenoah says it will do. I have never had a ZDZ-60 so cannot say for sure.

The G62 is relatively immune to muffler backpressure, is quiet because of the design of the exhaust port, and has a nice feature on the carb. There's a thumbscrew on the high end needle, making it possible to adjust from behind by hand it while the engine is running. This makes it so much easier to tune by ear, just turn it in until it reaches max rpm, then back it off until you hear an audible change. It's also very responsive.

The extra weight means nothing on this plane.

Wow, interesting. Even given the same prop and RPM, the G62 is over a pound heavier, I would think A POUND is a lot on any size model, especially one of this size.

But it doesn't seem to be the same RPM, I think the G62 simply has more power. It's also very responsive which makes it easier to control.

I'm running a G-62 on a Giant Stinger which will be finding a new home in the Wild Hare Edge! :) It's turning a Mejzlik 22 x 10 at 7700 plus. Yanks my 20 lb even Stinger around like nothing. Can't wait to put it on the Edge with an all up weight of 17 lb. So far, the best numbers I've seen on the Da 50 and the Mejzlik prop are 7200. I also just got my G62 back from Ralph at RC Ignitions. Runs great. Firewall ready with B&B mount, muffler, and battery, 4 lb. 14 1/2 oz.
