RE: Edge 540T (FINISHED)

DA's instructions that come with their 50 state to run the engine on a petroleum based oil and 32:1 for the first few gallons. Lawnboy Ashless can be found at any True Value store here in the midwest.

At 4 3/4 the plane will be a real teddy bear, mine gets squirrely at aft of 5" so your fine there.

Ok so then would I switch to this Amsoil?

RE: Edge 540T (FINISHED)

that test did not run the oils at the instructed amount so the test is bias to petroleum higher ratio oils if you run your oils high than the recommended mix it will carbon up a lot faster they ran all oils at 50 to 1 so any oil spacificly for that ratio will win in any side by side test just like if they run all oils at 100 to 1 the would be a totally different out come on whom did better in what category to do this test properly you need to run the oils at the recomended ratios

The first few gallons, I put 5 through my 50, are simply for the breaking in and seating of the ring to the cylinder, the petroleum is a better oil for this purpose. After you get past the initial break in you can switch to the synthetic. In general the synthetics tend to be too effective at reducing wear and hence the ring will not seat in as fast, prolonging the break in time, should you run the Amsoil right off the bat.

Like I stated earlier the instruction sheet that comes with the engine will tell you exactly how to set up and run the engine from the first start up.

shogun i agree i just wanted to shed my thoughts on the test they ran really biased to the penzoil products they had but if you stick with the ashless oil at 32 to 1 for longer than break in apart from to much wear you also have lots of carbon build up

I couldn't agree more Mike, I was just letting Scott in on the secrets all us gasperts are already aware of!

The tests were run at manufacturer's recommended ratios of 50-1.

They pointed out that you might run less oil but that would contribute to corrosion during non-operational periods.

YEE-HA :D Well guys I flew her today.. Ran the engine for a bit, checked the prop nuts, refueled, checked batteries, CG, nuts and bolts etc.. and taxied her out and gave her hell.. a little up trim and she was flying great.. only did 2 circles around the pattern, one loop and 3-point landed her.. It was almost sunset so thats all I did.. It was great and everyone (2 people) was impressed.. Now I just have to double check everything again tonight and she should be ready for some more.. Thanx to Tom for the product, and advice along the way, and all of the guys in the Wildhare forum for all the smart answers to my dumb questions:) Semper Fly!!

Man guys I got to fly the Edge today.. I am so pleased with this plane.. Got a few flights in and had a ball..got the DA purrin like a kitten.. I love rolling inverted; almost no down elev needed.. Knife edge and point rolls are easy too.. Hopefully tomorrow will be flyable.. I do need some bigger servo horns though cause I need some more throw.. Only in elevator and rudder.. I am tempted to screw the pull pull attachments on a little more but I don't want to stress out my servo as it is just an HS-5645..

What size servo arms are you using now? I'm using airwild 1.25 arms and that gave me more than 45 deg throws on high rates.

i used the stock long arm for the rudder, and the stock long 1/2 arms for the rest.. 5645's that is..

Man I want the WH edge so bad, but I hate the scheme on the plane. I wish Tom would come up with one like the extras.

RE: Edge 540T (FINISHED)

Perhaps you should talk to Tom and get one special ordered with a single color, and trim it to your taste. However the scheme thats on the plane is very easy to keep orientation.
