Hardware sizes Edge 540t
I purchased the hardware kit for the Edge 540t and i found 4 alen head cap screws Not exactly sure where they go but I know i need a lot more than that in this bird. Does anyone know the sizes of all the blind nuts that are I need to make a trip to the local hardware store and prey they have what i want.

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
The 4mm hardware that is used on the cowl, wing retainer screws, and horizontal stab retainers is more than adaquate for the plane. I've been flying one of the Extras' for a year now with the 4mm hardware and no ill effects. Before that I had flown the Edge. If you wonder how hard I fly the plane, ask "RTK". He's been there, and I fly my Extra very hard indeed.
If you want to change anything, leave all the 4mm blind nuts where they are and change a few bolts out to allen heads. Just measure the bolt shaft from the bottom of the cap to the end of the threaded portion to get the correct length. Pat |
RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
well i dont mind ussing the 4MM hardware just wanted to make sure that was what was there. I wouldnt know a 4mm bolt if it bit me.

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
Everything installed in the fuse is 4mm, and they don't bite.
Do not use red loctite on any screws going into blind nuts, it wil tear the nuts out when you try to remove them. TF |

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
4 in the tail to hold the satb's on 2 to hold the canopy on 2 to hold the wings and 4 on the cowel. I had to widden a whole in my cowel and the dremel chattered and blew a whole in it way to big :( gona need a bigger washer to hide that :( Im cursed i will never have a perfect plane lol.

A tip on cowls guys that I learned that some of you may not know.. Four strokes are notorious for this but gassers can rattle bolts out too.. On my canopy and cowl screws I put a small piece of fuel tubing to dampen the vibration and since I started doing this I have never lost a bolt (should I have said that??).. Please pardon my cramped hangar[:o]

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
LOL Guess what i found while cleaning the shop?
A bagg of screws that fit the edge. I am blaiming my daughters new kitten. I found the little rodent chewing on a servo extention last week she was sharring it with the dog. Thank you all for your input I guess i have extra screws now. |
RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
So are you saying that your daughter was sharing a rodent with the dog??;)
|
RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
LOL no the rodent was sharing the servo extention with the dog needless to sat it was well chewed. Seeing im here i might as well ask a question. When you make up these cables for the pull pull rudder how do you crimp the coller that makes up the loop I was thinking on just hitting them with a hammer but thought i should ask. God forbid one of them comes loose.

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
Do you have an electrical wire stripper/fitting crimper? They are found on the end of better wire cutters. I use brass or copper tubing, about 1/8" inside diameter. I crimp both ends of the tube in one direction, and then crimp the middle the opposite direction.

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
yes i have that type of crimper the kit came with these little black collers i was tempted to use a hammer but ill try and refrain from the over kill

RE: Hardware sizes Edge 540t
I use my z-bend pliers. Just put the sleeve in one of the v grooves and close the jaws, the point comes down and makes a neat crimp. You don't want to make a z-bend, lay the crimp sleeve 90 deg. so it's laying in the groove.
