Elevator servo location

Hi everyone
I was looking at the cutouts in the fuse for the elevator servos and i noticed 2 places one on top of the other. Its the same as you see here. http://www.edge540t.com/imagepages2/P1130025.html
I was wondering if any of you had set up your elevator servo in the lower spot and what the advantages or disadvantages are?

Easy does it 03-05-2005 04:48 PM

Bluemagic, the bottom servo cutouts are for rudder servos if you are going to use pull pull then do not cut the covering, Tom is very good at giving us planes that are easy to set up so if you need extra tailweight or prefer push pull then mount your rudder servos in these locations.

Hey blue if you got one of the new edge the elevator servos are not in the spot that that picture it's showing you,, they are forward and up a bit very close to the stab.
The rudder servo would be the perfect spot to install the elevator servos using 1.25'' to 1.5'' servo arms pointing up and you would have a perfect 90deg. on the linkages but you can't install them there because the servos will be on the way of the pull-pull cables for the rudder.

Bluemagic98 If you have the older one nothing sez you cant use the lower holes, and poing the servo arms up. If I had it to do over I would have used the lower set.

My edge is the same as the one pictured here i see they have a closefit the way they did this as well Im wondering if I wouldnt be beter of doing as Mark described ussing the lower wholes with the arm's facing up. Has any one tried this setup?

Hi BlueMagic. I've got the new setup with the cutouts higher and forward. THey look like they're far too close to the evelator before you open them up from the covering. Dont be put off here. I'm using the 1.25" SWB arms pointing down and the linkage is spot on. The links are horizontal, and are extremely positive.

But thank you for showing me anyway.

if you put the servo in the rudder servo spot they interfere with the pull pull cables

RE: Elevator servo location

I dont mean to sound unconvinced but i fail to see the differance from having the servo in the top slot arm facing down or having the servo in the bottom slot arm facing up as the arm will cross over the cable in both cases. If you look at this photo you will see my point:
http://www.edge540t.com/imagepages4/P1260017.html
now if I place the servo in the lower position arm facing up the linkage will be more lined up than it is in the photo. I may be way off base here but mstroh3961 seems to see my point. I figured i would put the question out there before i go cutting into the plane.

to make it work with the old servo cut out dremel the servo bay on the bottom about a 1/4 inch and the arms will work pointing up j.hunt did this on his edge check it out in the dod web site

and i like the new position on the new shipment planes over either no way to get cable probs from the new position :D

I just went out and looked at my edge, I dont think wou will have any clearance issues. using the lower hole.
I too like the new mounting location! Tom why dident you think of that sooner!;):D
