Straight lines PLEASE!
Mr. Tom, I have been looking at your planes for a while now. You have some very nice planes, but how about some straight line color schemes.
Guys don't beat up on me to bad. I know they are different. But it seems to me like all planes now are getting too busy with their color patterns. (not just wild hare) I like more traditional lines on a plane. and I know that there are only so many ways to put striaght line patterns on. It just seems to me that some schemes take away from the beutiful lines of a plane. Tom, I'm not bashing on your planes. But that color scheme on the Ultimate turned me off. Yes I know you can't please everyone, but I don't think I'm alone on this one. I have heard other say the samething. Even of other manufactures planes. "ie" Vision 3D, and most comp-arfs OK let the beatings begin! BTW How about a few solid colors for custom jobs? White is a good base color for many schemes. |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
In case you where not aware but you can order a plane in a solid color of your choice. Also you can choose to have a plane custom color in any of the present schemes.
I think if you want a custom scheme or something different you would do well if you ordered a solid color plane and trim off and color it the way you want. As Tom has said several times it would be very difficult to stock all his planes in all the schemes under the rainbow. You can't make all the people happy all the time. Hopfully as the years roll forward the schemes will change and we will see these great flying birds in new feathers. |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
I think the Sukhoi due out later this year will have a scheme more to your liking. I will tell you though some of the best looking bunnies have been the all white ones where the pilots got creative and did custom graphics and/or viynl.

Here are a few planes that were completed from a solid base.
These are 4 different planes (Edge 28%, Extra 300L, 35% Extra 330, Giles G202). TF |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
Well it is dangerous to be in the minorty, but I have to agree with Kelly. Hopefully things will swing back the other direction or at least to the middle of the road. I really have had my share of planes that look like they have been on a bad acid trip from the 60s.
Dont get me wrong, I love my Edge and it has been my daily flyer since Jan of 04. However last June when I got my 300L I had to strip it and start over, just couldnt handle that one. It must have something to do with money, maybe it is faster and easier cover them when all the lines are curved and it doesnt matter about the overlaps. Sure you can get a solid one and do your own scheme or do like I did and recover, but that takes away from the concept of getting it in the air fast and having to spend more money and time. So it would be nice to have something to choose from that looks like a real plane and not a bad dream. I must admit the new 260 is an improvement since at least the scheme matches on both sides of the plane. IMO it makes the planes look better on the up lines if both sides match. Dont be to tough on me now, cause no matter what they look like, we all love how great they fly and Tom has really done a great job of bringing us some great planes at a good price. Gary M |

RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
Thanks RCTom, I was not aware of the solid color planes. I will have to look in to that. Will the Ultimate be out in solid white?
Gary, I'm glad to see I'm not alone on here. |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
that non symmetrical scheme on the 28% spacial made it way easier to keep orientation white wing tip right red wing tip left:D rolling harriers up high or further out where much easier to see and the reason i had to do them further out or higher up when other people are flying i don't want to crowd them so you fly the pattern and when you have a upwind line to your self you bust out a nice roller

RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
No white ultimates in this batch, sorry. I may try to get a few the next time I order from them.
I like the assyemtrical schemes because it's easier to tell the orientation. TF |

RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
Advent,
That's a gorgeous scheme to me. I think some of the guys who say they want straight lines would go for something like that. Some of them (like me) probably wouldn't mind some curves at all-they just don't want the asymmetrical lines. I know alot of guys were going to go for the color sceme of the new 260. |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
That's nice Advent, Maybe the word I was looking for was symmetry. If only I could spell it.
As far as orientation goes that why the bottom is done in a different pattern and colors. Tom, I guess you would know better than most which sells the best. Keep up the good fight! BTW build a 50cc Pitts 12 and I want the first one:D |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
Thank you for the nice compliments

RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
Hey advent, can I use that scheme?

Do I get a production sample plane? ;)
I copied the scheme from the pictures below... I had the yellow on the bottom of the fuse, but it had a lot of air bubbles traped in it so I removed it. Also since I did not want to bother matching paint to the sign vynle I could not do the cowling as nice as the one in the picture. BTW I now have a normal size spinner on the plan in this picture, I will be adding some graphics to the wings ZIVKO on one wing and EDGE 540T on the other... I just can't decide on the lettering color, yellow with a blue outline or blue with a yellow outline or solid blue? |
RE: Straight lines PLEASE!
I personally like the color schemes, I have the Extra Special with the red, yellow, black, and it shows up excellent,,, I don't care for plain staight lines, it looks boring,, etc, etc, but some people just fly in circles so the straight lines fit them perfect:D,(not referring to anyone in this post)....
