regulators
anybody using the MPI Failssafe switch with regulators, plan on using two w/ 2 TBM 2350 lions for the receiver and one NIMH AA pack for the ignition. Will get the NIMH form Batteryspace.com, great batteries and cheap!

RE: regulators
The last MPI reg I used (years ago) gave me a bunch of radio noise. I'm sure they've cleaned up their products since then.
I am a HUGE Fromeco fan... check 'em out. Can't beat the current capability... plus being able to match the voltages allows me to gang multiple regs on a single RX or run a fused jumper between 2 RXs. Good stuff. |
RE: regulators
I use the mentioned TBM setup with no problems.

RE: regulators
I used the TBM Packs and the MPI 10amp regulators:
WH Extra 260 33% 2x Troy Built Models 2800mah Lion packs 2X 10amp MPI power regs 2x heavy duty switches with charge jack 1x2800 Troy Built Models 2800mah Lion pack 1x5.4v MPI reg 1x heavy duty switch - for my DA 100/ ignition I zapped one power regulator. I was NOT using the miracle switches that had the regs built in, but you just might want to be careful. Perhaps get one of the 20amp regs to be on the safe side. With this setup you will also have one battery drain faster than the other. That setup you describe I use in my GP Christen Eagle. I have yet to have a problem with it. When those fail, they do so in the on position. I imagine if you run a JR radio setup the straight voltage of the packs should have no ill effect. You might try the Batt Share or the Smart Fly products. |
RE: regulators
The Formeco regs are great. Huge heat sink and adjustable output, very user friendly. I would reconsider the use of AA NIMH for ignition, I doubt they will be able to deliver the current. With NIMH use 2700 MAH is about the min for an ignition.

RE: regulators
I use 1200 mah Nimh batteries on several of my ignitions. Never had a problem and good for several flights between charges. I don't know why 2700 mah would be needed.

RE: regulators
I'm running 2 MPI "Miracle Switch's" in my Ultimate to drop the voltage from TBM 2800 Li-Ion's.. So far no problems whatsoever..
I really like the idea that if they somehow do fail, they do so in the power on status. |
