mounting elevators on extra 300 LX
I'm just installing my elevators on my extra (one of two aircraft I'm building). The h-stab has two holes for two screws (4mm) per side to attach the stab to the fuse (the harwarde kit on both planes only supplies 2 bolts per plane). The instruction manual also states to use two bolts to secure the h-stab. If you read the instruction manual further and read the quick start quide it states:
5. The horizontal stab assembly mounts on one 1/2” aluminum tube. One 4mm screw is used at each side to retain the stab assemblies. Use lock washers on them. Put pins through the rear antirotation dowels to act as a backup to the side screws. The h-stab does not have a rear antirotation dowel, only in the front. How are you supposed to put a pin through this dowel? The only thing I can think of is gluing a bolt into the rear thread, cut off the head and drill a hole to accept a pin. I really need the stab to be removable because I only have a durango and need to transport both planes to the field. Thanks |
RE: mounting elevators on extra 300 LX
Seems like a typo - Cut/Paste error in the instruction manual.
The point/para 5 seems to be a mix of the Wing + Stab installation instructions ;-) Elevators are fixed using the 1/2" tube + 2 screws per side. If you are gonna be removing them all the time, then use Teflon tape etc instead Loctite ( to avoid messing up the blind nuts etc). Look at Page 14 for details The Wing is attached using 1 4mm bolt & drilling the rear Anti-rotation dowels with pins thru them is recommended as a backup. Page 22 Hope this helps. --Arvind |
