The winner for teh Cap design is Mike Meador, thanks for everyones effort.

Mike's design just struck me as being very flexible, it lends itself to color changes as well as customizing. It has room for graphics, looks neat with the stripes between the swooshes, etc.

Nice job Mike!

I am all smiles :D! Thank you Tom for the opportunity to help in the design process of what I am sure will be another great aerobat to come out of Wildhare R/C. Having owned a 28% 300LX, I can't wait to fly the Cap! Once again, Wildhare is on the ball as far as product offering, quality, and affordability.

Thanks,
Mike Meador

Target weight of the 85" version is about the same as 84" Edge, about 17 lbs with DA-50. With the largert wings add 1 pound, plus the weight of a heavier engine. I'm figuring 20 pounds with a 3w or ZDZ 80.

BTW the 85" version will be a great home for the heavier engines like a G62 or 3w 60, etc. I'm flying one with an Evo 58 and it's awesome.

First shipment we hope for the end of this year or maybe January. The production line is running now.

Price for the 85" plane will be $469, the 91" version will be a little more but I hope to keep it under $500.

Shipping will be about $50, it will be in 2 boxes I'm pretty sure.

You can place an order now. No charge until the plane is ready to ship, cancel any time.

OMG! That is bad!

I gots-ta have one! [&:]

Are the wing area numbers on the 85" the same as the extra 28%? What about the 92" Cap, will it have the same area as the MX2?

The 85" plane has about 1330 in. sq., vs. 1365 for the 28% Edge, the 91" version has 1510 in. sq. vs. 1560 for the MX2.

1510 sq. inches at 20 lbs with a 3w80 will be a serious contender for "horse of the year". I predict great things.

Tom,

Good job!!! This one is vastly superior to the first one that was sent over. You must have leaned on them pretty hard to get it right. Looks like your G-62 is without a prop now, though.

On the 91" Cap, is it going to be set up for one or two servos per aileron? It seems like I saw it in a thread but can't find it now ... what is the fuselage length of the Cap? Will the plane by any chance come with a tunnel for a cannister?

It will be for a single servo. The aileron is very stiff and this keeps the cost down.

Fuse length is 77" without the spinner, 81" if spinner is included.

There is a tunnel for a canister, but it will need to be a short one because the wing tube is down in the bottom and in the way. But there is gobs of room in the cowl.

Tom - Do you by any chance have some pics of your Cap motor/exhaust setup?

I do not have any photos of the engine installation and the plane is not nearby to take a picture.

However here's a photo of the bare plane, very conventional, it will not pose any problems if you have ever built an ARF before.

Nice, I didnt know it had built up wings. Should save even more weight. Yup I am sold.

I thought you guys might enjoy seeing what it's like to build a large container full of airplanes.

And to clarify this, the 85" wings are built up but the 91" wings are sheeted foam. A photo of the not-yet-sheeted wing is attached.

Now that would keep me b usy for a while! One thing I noticed of interest is the triangle stock gusset they put in the cockpit area. That is an idea that I started doing on some of my 3D planes as it adds a great deal of strength to an otherwise weak point in the frame. I bet that $.15 worth of wood will probably save countless fuses from breaking in half.

It is interesting to see all of those planes lying there in kit form. If I was retired I could have a ball in there!
