Evo/MVVS 45mg

Tom - Do you by any chance have any spec sheet info for the EVO 45mg? Do you carry them? I sent an email to MVVS-Canada but got no reply.

Thanks.

Dan

I have one, have flown it enough to know it's a nice engine, that's about it.

I won't be carrying them until Horizon starts supporting them. I can't offer the level of support that's needed alone through Canada, so I'll have to wait. My understanding is that Horizon is working on getting them.

I can fully understand and appreciate Tom's reluctance to carry products for which he can't give reasonable assurances of support. Having purchased an MVVS 45 from Triad Aviation (www.triadaviation.com), I will attest to the excellent support I have received from the good folk north of the border, and in particular David Moen of OTN Imports. He has been very responsive to my multiple inquiries, and a great resource as I went along.

My MVVS 45 resides on a WH Edge. Although this is my first gas airplane, it has been virtually trouble free, and is well suited to my style of flying. I paid particularly close attention to an earlier thread in which Tom provided his observations about how well this engine performs. My conclusions are similar to his -- In my case, and with a little over a gallon of gas through it, there's still an opportunity for me to squeeze some more out of it. While I have no frame of reference other than videos I've seen, I'd say that the MVVS 45 would approach the output of the DA-50. With time, I'm sure I'll get more out of my combination.

I'm attaching a dimensional drawing of the 45 with the hope of answering any questions you may have. Try David again. You'll be glad you did.

gbdvorsky - Thank you for the dimensions. I heard from David Moen and received the requested information. What muffler are you using?

RE: Evo/MVVS 45mg

I'm using a Bisson 09661 Pitts Muffler for the ZDZ 60 -- it bolts right up (44 mm bolt spacing I think) and doesn't leak. The exhaust port doesn't exactly match the muffler as it is a flattened oval shape, not rectangular as shown in the dimensional drawing. Performance doesn't seem to suffer though, as I'm getting about 7,100 rpm on the ground using a Bolly carbon 22-8. Best price for the muffler I've found is at Chief Aircraft.

If you decide to go the MVVS route, I have some additional suggestions for muffler installation that will help you in the long run. I don't have any cowl off photos handy, but would gladly provide them if needed.
