Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
1 Attachment(s)
Well, I got in late last night, but got to pick up my airplane from my uncles' house. This is one high quality plane. I haven't finished unpacking it, but it's really nice. It has a nice big cut out for canisters, the canopy is tinted and pre-cut, and the the holes for the canopy hold down bolts are already drilled with blind nuts installed.

Well, I got the throttle arm soldered on the 3W 56. It's not going anywhere. About to glue the elevator and horizontal stab hinges.

I got the elevators glued into the horizontal stabs. I like to wipe the beveled surfaces with WD 40. I helps to keep the glue from sticking to the covering.

RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
I do the same. I also use that or silicone spray lubricant to prevent the hinges from binding from any glue expansion. Works great and a lot easier and cleaner then the melted vasoline method.
Very sweet engine. Twins are much more fun for 3D! |
RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
I guess you guys didn't read the instructions. My improved method with the masking tape gives much better results than using WD 40.

I read that, just didn't feel like doing it. I'm going to give it a try on the ailerons though.

I did a little work on the CAP this evening. I'm also having to repair my Funtana and I'm still recovering from the weekend. I glued the left aileron into the left wing. Tom has a new method for gluing the hinges which involves using masking tape over the hole to keep it clean. I like the way it works. I also drilled out the cowl screw holes and put in some grommets. I do this to prevent the cowling from getting damaged by keeping the holes from enlarging. I also went to machine shop and gave them an idea of what I wanted in the way of standoffs. It may be a week or so before they even get to the though. Oh, this thing even has laser cut holes for the servo screws...very nice.

I glued the right aileron to the right wing panel tonight. Pretty easy. I also started to balance the prop using the DOD method. Just gotta balance the hub now. After that, I sealed the covering around the aileron servo slots and dripped some thin CA around them.

I got the prop balanced DOD style. I'm waiting on standoffs for my engine and my servos.

Ben,
Did you ever get your other engine back? I thought you sent it into Horizon. Just curious. Bill |

ORIGINAL: rcbill Ben, Did you ever get your other engine back? I thought you sent it into Horizon. Just curious. Bill I installed the control horns for the elevators tonight. I like to mix and match hardware. I used the studs and clevis from a Rocket City #70 set. I then use the hex nuts from a DuBro set. I like to screw the stud in from the bottom so I don't have to counter sink the head of the stud or have it showing. |

I opened the holes for the horizontal stab bolts and canopy bolts tonight. I also mounted the canopy to the hatch. I'll probably work on sealing the hinge gaps later. The project is more or less being held up by the lack of engine standoffs and my busy days at work. Once, I get the hinge gaps sealed, the electronics are going in.

RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
Thanks! I wanted to work on it tonight, but i'm also working on mounting the 3W in my other bunny (an Edge). It's taking longer than I expected. I'll post some pictures of that to though. I'm also working on some logos to dress it up from Kirby's Kustom.

RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
Wow! tough life, all those bunnies to look after.... keep the pics coming

I was hoping to have more time to work on the plane tonight, but that didn't happen. I got the elevator hinge gaps sealed and removed the masking tape from the canopy. I have some matching Ultratrim coming to put some nice lines around the canopy. Also, check out the elevator throw.
|
RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
thats not enough throw, is it? :) :) :)
|
RE: Review of the Wild Hare CAP 232
I'll post a better picture tonight, but look at how much of the stab area is elevator. This bunny should have no problems with 3D throws. I'm really impressed.

I know you were joking, but people gotta see this. I finished sealing the hinge gaps for what I have glued. I'm waiting on the standoffs to mount my engine so I can glue the rudder. I would start on the electronics install, but i'm going flying this weekend hopefully. I can always install the aileron control horns. I also took some Ultratrim in Bright Yellow and went around the edge's of the canopy to spiff it up.

I finally got a chance to work on this over the past few days. The first day was just mounting the engine. It took quite a bit of work as we had to drill out the standoffs and then clean the threads. I also set up the tank in a hybrid of the DOD and 3W style.
