First WH
Well I just ordered my first WH :) Ended up getting the blue Yak.
I have a left over conversion engine from a mishap and decided it needed a new home :) Its a Stihl 44 chainsaw engine that runs awesome. Weighs in at just shy of 3.5# with muffler and pulled a 17# Sukhoi to unlimited vertical. I am thinking I should be able to get this Yak around 15#s and have a very nice combo. Curious as to what weights and engines people are coming in at. Am I pushing my luck to think I can make 15# with a 3.5# engine? Thanks! |
RE: First WH
It will be close, I think you are going to be looking at about 15 and ahalf- 16 1/2 realisticly,,,,,

RE: First WH
How is that possible? Didn't I read somewhere someone was at 14.3 oz. with a DA and CF tubes etc? The CF prob saved 3/4s of a pound.
A DA -50 is 3#s with no muffler.. I cant be that far off can I? |
RE: First WH
Get er done and we will all know!:D

RE: First WH
The DA50 with Standoffs, motor, ignition box, ignition battery, and stock muffler, the hole thing weighs 4.14 pounds,

RE: First WH
You can get it to 15.5 without trying, just assemble it and don't add anything you don't need.
A CF wing tiube probab;y save 4-5 oz., not the 3/4 pound somebody else speculated. TF |
RE: First WH
Alright sounds good :)
I am just overly curious while I wait for it to arrive :) This engine is 3.5# with muffler and everything needed to mount it. Just have to add battery so I should be in great shape. Thanks for the input guys! |
RE: First WH
Well just got an email tonight.. looks like mine will arrive on Monday. Have read the manual and seems a quick build.
How long did it take you guys to put it together realistically? Thanks! |
RE: First WH
Well I just thought I would let you know it arrived safe and sound! Outside box was a bit ding'd but inside was safe and sound thanks to the nice packing job. I havent looked at the fuse incredibly close.. but everything seems to fit well and so far I havent been able to find even a wrinkle :)
My buddy is helping me with the motor and cowl tomorrow so I decided to hinge today. Got all the control surface sides done now.. just have to wait till they dry. Will of course leave the rudder off as per the instructions. Looks like a tiny plane with all wings haha.. gonna be one crazy 3d plane :) |
