3MM 114

Tom,
Do you have any updates on the 3MM 114?

Tom,
Do you have any updates on the 3MM 114?
Yes.

First, it's a 106, not a 114. The 114 was built because of a mistake at the factory that makes the cylinders, but the engine will be 106cc in production.

The later prototypes are being tested now. I spoke with the factory a few days ago and they said they should have an answer for me this month about when production will start. That's not an answer, but we're getting closer to an answer.

I am selling the DL-100 in the interim.

I'm interested. Sounds like a 3W look alike.

This is interesting. The 3mm 53 single does indeed look like a 3w engine. It has all the same shape and style, the cylinder could have been copied from 3w (with some changes).

It seemed natural to me to use two of those cylinders on a twin, but instead they made a whole new cylinder that looks like a DA on the outside while still looking like a 3w on the inside.

Anyway we should know more soon.

RE: 3MM 114

I will be interested in seeing what the final weight turns out to be. I have a 3W 106 and while I like the power. I really don't like the fact that it is over a pound heavier than a DA 100. If the 3MM is around the DA weight it should be a winner.

RE: 3MM 114

The 3mm weight is about a half pound LIGHTER than a DA-100.

You bet. I have two of the engines and have been flying one, sent the other to an associate (not Pat, I do have other friends) who will start flying the snot out of his. I have mine on a 35% Edge and had it out at the field on Friday.

I have about a half hour flying time on mine plus another 15 minutes on the ground, and I am very happy. It is a gem of an engine, starts easy, idles very smoothly below 1400 rpm, has power equal to the DL-100 and is very well behaved. Also it's 3/4 pound lighter than the DL, the bare engine weighs 4 lbs. 15 oz.

I need to do some more flight testing to check out various setups but I think I will be ready to start selling them in a few weeks.

BTW the mufflers on the TMM-106 (name changed from 3mm due to letters from the 3M scotch tape people) are WAYYY better than those on the DL, and the TMM uses a real Walbro carb. They did a very nice job on it.

RE: 3MM 114

Good to hear. The weight of the TMM is just about exactly the same as the RCGF and if it runs better than the DL then it's a slam dunk. Are the exhaust port flanges the same as the ones in the factory pics? If so that's wonderful. Finally an exhaust flange that's robust enough to tighten down the bolts.

Hey, Tom,
Any price for a set of mufflers, yet? Or do you want me to call you?

Where do you think they got 3/4 pound shaved out of the motor? It does not look all that different than any other 100cc.....871

No, not yet. BTW why do you want mufflers for an engine that isn't on the market yet?

I want to replace the heavy, boxy mufflers on my Brison 6.4. The bolt hole spacing is off by one millimeter only. That I can live with.

RE: 3MM 114

But how well do the exhaust openings themselves line up?

The Abell mufflers are about the only ones for a 6.4 that I know to be heavy and boxy. The cans from Bisson are long, round and have an angeled mounts to assist clearing engine boxes. They weigh about the same as all the other mufflers for domestic engines.

Hey Tom,
Any updates on price and availability, yet?

rctom 03-24-2009 05:11 PM

RE: 3MM 114

Yes, they will be available two months ago, I've had them in stock and selling them for $699.

It's a 106, not a 114.

At this moment I am out of stock except for one engine I've been using for testing, but I can get them in a week.

I guess I should have expressed myself better. Actually I meant the mufflers for the 106. Do you have a set of spare mufflers in stock, by any chance?

Tom,
Do you have more update information on the MM 106? Are they as dependable as the 53? Do you like the power better or as well as the DLE 111 or DL100? I haven't seen any info on this engine in the forums.
Thanks,
Darrol

RE: 3MM 114

The engines I sold have been reliable and smooth but the power was less than competing engines.

TMM is in the process of redesigning the cylinders or pistons or something. They have told me that the power of the revised engine is now as good or better than the DLE-111.

I'm waiting for the revised 106 before I order any more. There's nothing wrong with the original engines but I see no point in putting more of them out there at this time.

New engines should be available in a couple months I am told.
