mw54 mk3 start time
Hi I'm new to rc turbines and have purchased a second hand MW54 mk3 with 18hrs on it, at the moment I'm bench running to get some experience, the turbine seems to run nicely, however I'm not sure if the time from Start command to the GSU giving the running signal is normal ?, as you already gathered I'm using full auto start
today I did some testing with 2 seperate Fadec units and got these results,
Turbine Technics Fadec start command to engine running = 74 seconds
Advanced Turbine Control Unit start command to engine running = 68 seconds
the reason I'm asking is the gas always lights off at the first attempt at 6 seconds from start, the turbine accelerates quickly to approx 23k rpm and then the acceleration slows significantly, pausing for a few seconds at around 27k to 28k the starter turns off at 29k and the turbine slowly accelerates towards 45k, at around 33k -36k there is some popping with the odd small flame from the exhaust, this stops by 36k.
Once running at idle the turbine is resposive and accelerates quickly and ceanly upto 160k
I'm running a new 2s 7.4v lipo 2200mah battery
the Fadec parameters are Turbine Technics Fadec
Full speed 160k
Idle 45k
stop 28k
start min 100c
max temp 800c
acc delay 015
dec delay 015
stability delay 50
pump start point auto +1
pump start ramp 004
glow power 040
Advanced Turbine Control Unit
Full speed 160k
Idle 45k
start min 100c
max temp 800c
acc delay 015
dec delay 015
stab delay 50
pump start point auto +1
pump start ramp 005
glow power 039
Many thanks
Jaz

RE: mw54 mk3 start time
Thank You Ron
I tried increasing in increments of one and now reached "pump start ramp = 009 This seems to be the sweet spot, start command to running in 40 seconds, no more popping in the exhaust and egt good
I presume it's ok to go as high as "009" ?
Many Thanks
Jaz

RE: mw54 mk3 start time
If you have a smooth start and the temperatures are steady and not excessively hot....then, yes you are good to go.
You can also increase the stability delay to 100, as all ECU's (Wren) are now programmed to this value.
Enjoy!

RE: mw54 mk3 start time
Hi Ron
That's great news, peak temp reached 520c during start so I guess I'm good to go
I'll increase the stability delay as well
Many Thanks
