YS 170 DZ?

RE: YS 170 DZ?
I can't say as we've never seen one here. I'm sure it will make more power than the 160, but we can't get enough of those to satisfy the demand either.
If we have a production run of the 170 by next summer, I will be surprised.

RE: YS 170 DZ?
I spoke to Richard last week and the word is June 1.
There really is not too much difference in the 2 engines. The 170 has a little better throttle response down low in the curve, and a couple hundred rpm on the top. I'm running the 170 at the same top end RPM as the 160 and the 170 is better on the sound meter.
I'm actually doing some sound testing today when I go out.

Props are the same for the 160 and 170.
APC 16.5-13W, 17-12, 17-12W, 17-13, 18.1-10, 18.1-10W, 18-11
Same for all YS engines...Hit the RPMS right and it will make huge power. The 160 and 170 make the best power with the props above turning about 8200-8400
tank size is the same on both. 20oz
I just came home from the field and I'm getting about 14-15mins on the 170 with a 20oz tank. This is flying a complete P-07 and F-07 sequence and then it will give about 1-2 extra passes

RE: YS 170 DZ?
I have a new 170 that starts fine runs for 3 to 4 minutes then gently stops running. Went through the adjustment process again, new glow plug, fresh fuel, new check valve, all with the same results. I then exchanged the 170 for a 160 I had on the shelf only to have the same results. Fuel tank lines are free flowing and well vented. I am out of ideas, where am I going wrong? The 170 is new the 160 used 3 gallons of fuel. This is probably my 10th YS, I love them, just out of ideas.
Thanks

RE: YS 170 DZ?
If the 160 is doing the exact same thing as the 170, then logic would dictate that it's something to do with the tank or the fuel lines. Look for a pin hole or tear in the lines, paying special attention to the area right around where the line attaches to the nipple. Next, check the pick-up line in the tank, look at the clunk too. Make sure the check valve is inserted in the fuel line facing the correct direction. It should allow flow towards the tank, prevent flow out of the tank.

RE: YS 170 DZ?
Chris,
I don't know the exact prop to use, but i'm guessing a 20X6 or 20x8 would work well. I am currently running the 19X11APC for pattern with good results. I think the most important thing is the RPM range. The engine seems to be happiest between 7400-8000RPM, so whatever prop you choose it should turn in this RPM range. More and you arent taking advantage of the torque, and less you are loading the engine. I would think that 7700 would be a good target RPM as it wouldnt be loading the engine so much that spooling up could be a problem pulling out of a hover.
