Default YS FZ63S in PBN Nomad - Take 2

Moving along with the PBN Nomad project and have a couple more questions...

I heven't yet decided completely, but am leaning toward inverted mounting of twin YS FZ63S engines. To try to ensure reliable idle I am also leaning toward using Andy Low's (Electrodynamics) GlowLite glow drivers. Any comments on inverted installation and the use of a glow driver when mounting inverted would be greatly appreciated.

The fuel tanks will each be mounted directly behind the firewalls. Are YS engines, such as the FZ63S, particularly sensitive to fuel tank mounting height? I wouldn't think so due to the pressurized system, but would like your comments and advice on tank height for the inverted installations. I hate reinventing the wheel too often!

Finally - Don't you ever take the day off?

Default RE: YS FZ63S in PBN Nomad - Take 2

You can mount tanks wherever you like, but even with the YS pump system, I still like to keep the tank within a reasonable distance. Height doesn't matter at all.

Lots of guys run inverted without glow drivers, but in a twin project, I think it's worth the effort.

I would run both the engines on the bench for at least 6 or 8 full tanks each. Then check the valves to make sure they are both at .003". All the bench settings should be exactly the same in the airplane. Use the setup instructions at www.ysperformance.com to get them both dialed in correctly.

Yeah, I took about 4 hours off yesterday, drove the 'Vette to the gun club and shot a few clay targets. We don't get to do much of either this time of the year with snow and cold. That's about the extent of the time off for the rest of this month! C'MON SPRING!!!!
