Default DZ 160 starting question

Hi Dave,

I have 2 new DZ160 engines which both run fantastically. Both are running identically with pump screw flush to housing and 1.25 turns on the main. One of the engines is difficult to start when it has not been started for a few weeks. The problem is it takes a lot of hand cranks or starter cranks at full throttle to get fuel into the engine (removing air bubble from injector line). The other engine does not suffer from this problem. They both have about 50 flights on them. Other than that there fine. Any ideas?

Regards,

Peter

Choke it with a finger over the venturi with the throttle wide open prior to starting. Prime down the venturi works as well.

Thanks Dave,

I just wanted to avoid removing the cowl every time. It is just a little awkward getting to the venturi.

Will putting finger over exhaust outlet help- just lik the 2 stokes?

Regards,

Peter

this won't work because you have no pressure tap on the muffler going to the tank.

True, but you will increase internal pressure in the engine by plugging the exhaust with your finger thereby driving the pump a bit harder.

I see I was thinking it would hinder the pump from working
