Hyde soft mount
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Dave....I have a 140L on a Hyde soft mount. Anything 1/4 throttle and below she shakes alot more than what im used to seeing on an engine. Is this normal? The guy I bought this from told me that she will shake on this mount at low throttle settings. Had a different 140L hard mounted on my old WM Extra 120 and never had a problem. Here is a pic of my set up.
Thanks |

The L does shake pretty hard on a soft mount, but wouldn't you rather have the mount take the pounding than your airframe?

Thanks....you put my mind at rest.

Hum i dunno about the shaking... but I see that you have the mounting bracket for a Slimline muffler...
I just installed a slimline muffler on my 140L, and after 6 flights the stud became loose and the rubber O-ring blew-up. How do you keep your muffler attached to the engine? Do you use Loctite, or something else??? Thanks, |
.
I only have about 10 minutes of run time on it myself. I did thread lock it though. Only time will tell.

Pardon my ignorance, but in the photo of your installation I see the beams on the Hyde mount extend only as far as the rear mounting lugs on the engine, so two screws securing the rear of the lugs, plus the nose ring. Is the nose ring really that sturdy that you can dispense with screwing down the front lugs as well?

I wondered the same thing too. After only a couple of flights no problems so far. Only thing I did not originally think of is that the engine actually torques off the center line at hight throttle and does make for some radical tumble maneuvers.

Slimline Muffler
Maxime,
I had a Slimline muffler on my 120 FZ and had the same problem with the"O" ring blowing out. I finally went to an Auto Part store and got some Exhaust Manifold gasket material. I cut a gasket to fit the mounting flange. I used longer screws and Loctite them. Did not use the "O" ring anymore, never had anymore problems. |

I found why I blew a seal...
I was originally using a Central header with a tuned pipe.... I had installed copper shims (supplied with the header) in the exhaust manifold. The shims prevented me from properly tightening the Slimline muffler. I removed the shims, Slimline sent me new seals ( Thanks ! ), and after 11 flights so far, no signs of loosening. Thank you, |
