Welcome Dave,
Always great to get some good advice and lok forward to yours'.

I have a 140L which I bought used and have run twice. It spins a Zinger 16x6-10" prop up to 8,200 RPM. Is that an acceptable/normal range?

Before the first flight an idle below 2,500 RPM is rough. After the first flight the idle can easily be 2,100 RPM and smooth.

I am using the YS plug Central Hobbies sells and their header system. Fuel is Wildcat YS 20/20.

This baby really pulls.

Thanks,
bigben

Hi Ben,
Does the fuel have any castor in it? Might be the cause. Try running the engine at high idle for a couple of minutes after initial start up to get it warm and the tank pressure stabilized. Then go to full throttle for 15 or 20 seconds. I 'd bet your idle will be fine.
RPM is fine.
Good Flying,
Dave

Hi Dave and welcome.
What are your recommendations for mounting a YS91, glass filled hard mount or soft mount like a Hyde? This is for sport style flying.

Dave Shadel 04-16-2002 03:07 AM

You can hard mount the 91 if you like, but your aircraft and your radio will thank you for a soft mount.. The Hyde is the best, but there are others, like Gator and Dave Brown which work well too.

Hi dave!! I have a new 120FZ, I have about 30-40 min. of run time. did the initial breakin then mounted it on the plane, I have an APC 16-8 on it. the problem is when i advance the throttle it goes a little then kinda hesitates, sounds lean and as if its going to throw the prop off. This is my first YS so iam not sure if i should adjust the regulator or the lowend. If i advance the throttle very slowly it will advance all the way. the high end is still rich for breakin.. maybe richen the lowend abit. what do you think. also this is after it is warmed up so there should be adiquate preswsure in the tank. thanks for any help.

just me again, I did a little turning on the lowend on the 120 and found it did transition better, but still a little lean on the transition, maybe about 1/3 throttle, also when adjusting the idle should i do it inverted or not. the motor is mounted inverted in the plane. thanks for any help. should i turn the regulator at all??

Hi speedo, The regulator controls the mid range, turn it counter-clockwise 1/4 turn and try again. If it's better but not perfect go another 1/4 turn. You should never go more than 1 turn in or out from the factory setting. Anything more is telling you something is plugging up the regulator. Filters are really important with YS engines, use 'em.
Plugs and fuel are critical as well. Use Ys 20/20 fuel and YS#4 or OS type F plugs for best results.
Hope this helps,
Dave

YS fueler valve hook-up ??

Dave, With the YS pressure system, what arrangement
do you use to fuel an incowl engine ?

Fuel dots are the best way. Stay away from the fueling valves as they tend to leak sometimes.

Hi Dave! Do you know any manufacturers that produces an engine test stand for running an engine outside an aircraft. Want to make adjustments because the aircraft I plan to install with the engine has an enclosed cowl that will not allow access.

Thanks

I know J tec used to make one, but not sure if they are still.

Advie Please Dave

Hi Dave , YS should be proud , great work!!!

My question is this

I recently had a model disintegrate midair which resulted in obvious crash , fortunately it landed in a heavy bog hence saving my YS 91 engine , however it got flooded with muck and the likes.
I stripped it completely down and cleaned it out thoroughly .
However now there is a definite clicking at one point while manually turning it (not sure if this is normal).
I have set the camgear with the crankshaft ( pip on camgear at bottom while pip at crankshaft at bottom) .
Is there any other timings or rebuild issues that I am unaware of???
This is a brand new engine and I am hesitatant in starting it until somebody could confirm that I am not overlooking something.

Thanks Dave

Dave,

I have the YS 63 engine, and I tried to break it in today. My first attempt it started up right away, and as I went to richen it up, I went a little too far and it shut down on me. After that, the engine wouldn't ever start back up. The glow plug is an OS type F and brand new (turns bright orange when ignited).

Also, there is now no compression. Before running the engine there was a good amount of compression. Now there is next to none and it won't fire.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Greg

P.S. I'm using powermaster YS 20/20 fuel and a 12x7 prop

Take the valve cover off and check the valve clearances. Should be about .003" on both valves. I suspect that one or both are hanging open.

Hello Dave, I'm having problems with my new YS91, it just quits at idle (above 3000 anyway), transition ok, high ok, YS20/20 fuel wildcat,OS F,APC 16x4W, any suggestions?

Is it quitting rich or lean? What did you do with the regulator screw? Where is the HS needle set? Where is the airbleed set?

apereira 04-10-2003 06:34 AM

YS Engines Direct support

I tried with rich and lean setting, the airbleed doesn't do anything and set the screw flush today but with the same results, the idle changes from 3000 to 4000 and reduces slowly but quits like if running out of fuel, the high end is at 1.5 turns, I read in here that at idle the engine runs with suction fuel, is that true?, if so there's no fuel been sucked I guess.

Did you buy the engine in the USA?

Yes, I bought it from Central hobbies.
