YS 63 Problem
Hi,
I need help with YS 63 Last weekend tried adjust my engine, did brake in couple of weeks ago, That was running fine, only difference is that I’ve put coil on it. The engine starts fine, idle was stable, high rpm was 10500 with 14-4, but seems like running to lean – very little smoke on high rpm and no smoke on low rpm, When tried adjust low needle valve, turn a little with no response from engine, turn on 360 get no response from engine again, I’ve turn low needle valve back and force with no changes on engine work, so that not responding on low needle valve at all. My question what that may be, and how that can be fixed? That is running fine but I am afraid running that too lean. Thank you, for any help. |
RE: YS 63 Problem
What fuel? What plug? And what is "coil"? Do you mean "oil"? If you put in most any oil, you could have ruined the diaphragm and some of the seals.

RE: YS 63 Problem
I’ve used 20/20 fuel as far I know oil used on the fuel half synthetic half Castor, my friend running his ys 63 on same fuel with no problem , OS F plug on the engine, I am sorry I’ve missed spell cowl
I’ve put cowl on the plane that probably reduce air flow. |

RE: YS 63 Problem
I've did setup everything as instructed in paper that comes with engine.
There is a question. Paper sad clockwise turns make engine richer and counterclockwise make leaner, instructions on the website sad opposed. Which is correct? And another question what may do engine not reacting on low needle valve turns. My friend who has same engine told me even ¼ turn on low needle valve make a lot changes on engine running, main is not reacting even on full turn, even 2 turns? Thank You for so fast reply. |
RE: YS 63 Problem
If you turn the idle needle clockwise is makes the idle richer. Try the setup instructions on the website rather than on the paper.

RE: YS 63 Problem
What do You think is that possible that engine is not responding to low needle valve because of fuel flow is not intensive enough, like bubbles or pressure from pump is not enough?
Is that pressure can be adjusted by bronze regulator? |
RE: YS 63 Problem
I give up. Please return the engine to YS service and let them take a look at it.

RE: YS 63 Problem
Any way thanks for the answers, have one more question.
I’ve flew yesterday on plane with the engine, and engine idling fine on 2400 and running 12-7 with 11000 on ground, when I flew engine dies mostly on hover or inverted loop at point nose up, I flew at half throttle. Is engine was lean or reach at the time? how to adjust that? Thank you, Dmitriy |
RE: YS 63 Problem
Check the clunk. It may be running against the end of the tank. In any case, it is lean.

RE: YS 63 Problem
Hi Dave,
I visited YSPerformance.com to check out their engine setup recommendations only to find one of their procedures to be at odds with the instructions supplied with YS engines. Step 8 of the procedure instructs that if the transitions from idle to full throttle is rich, then, "the regulator screw should be turned clockwise. If the transition is lean, turn the screw counter-clockwise to richen." There is no mention of a regulator adjustment to set the idle speed in the factory manual. Can you please clarify? |
RE: YS 63 Problem
At the time that is die I’ve had full tank, just take of, and screw of low valve at the level of carb plate, so 4 turns from fully closed position, instruction sad 1 turn from fully closed position.
Is that normal should I turn more out counter clockwise to make that richer? Fuel line to engine had no bubbles, when I’ve took the line out of engine fuel was running well. |
RE: YS 63 Problem
Like I said before, please send us the engine.

RE: YS 63 Problem
As far we discussed by phone You may give me a call after the engines run.
The engines YS 45 with cracked body on muffler rear bolt place and other YS 63. In just of cases i'll give my both phones home (718) 449 3773 and cell (917) 232 8380 Thank You Dmitriy |
