YS53 problems

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but have used my .53 for almost 4 seasons without putting a spanner on it!

In the last few weeks it has become increasingly difficult to start to the point of not running at all yesterday!

Previously it also started to 'hunt' when idling - particularly at the end of a flight with a hot motor.

The only other problem that I've had (and fixed), was the main needle leaking - cured with a new O-ring

I'm checking the valve gaps this evening with the help of an engineering minded friend (sadly the good lord didn't see fit to make me useful with a box of spanners!).

Is there anything else to look for/be aware of?

regards

Julian

After this length of time, I would recommend replacing all of the gaskets and seals, and it may also possible need a new set of bearings. Difficult to say without seeing the engine.

HI there,

...what I was expecting really!

Any idea what I should expect to pay in the UK?

I would not know how much over there. Maybe $70 as a guess.

RE: YS53 problems

Hi,

I had a good look around the motor last night, removing the main needle seat. There was a ton of crap in there, including a chunk of silicon fuel tube - lord only knows how that got there! It could quite conceivably have been intermittantly blocking the fuel passages. Adjusted the tappets - interestingly the only wear seeming to be on the inlet side.

A quick test run and she's back to her best!

Can you tell me where I can get the needle o-ring. Novody over here seems to have them.

kind regards

Julian
