Y.S. 140 question
I would like to purchase a Y.S. 140 for use in some of my larger scale planes, mainly WW2 1/5 scale fighters eg yellow Spitfire...
My question is.... What is the difference between the various Y.S. 140 engine models, I have heard of the L and FZ version whats the difference? and also which version is the most popular and why??? Cheers- |
Y.S. 140 question
The 140DZ is the current hotrod of the 140 line. It is the most powerful and the choice of most of the world's top pattern fliers.
The 140L is the engine that was replaced by the DZ, and is still available but in short supply. It is not as user friendly as the DZ and slightly less powerful. The 140 FZ was the engine prior to the L. We never imported this one, as it came before we imported the YS line. It was a user friendly engine but less powerful than the L. We are bringing out a 140 Sport late this year. It is essentially the same as the FZ and will sell for under $500 street price. This is the one I would wait for if you can. It would be ideal for the type of flying you are doing. Good Flying, Dave |
Y.S. power
Dave, thanks for answering my first question.
I have another, the new sport version of the Y.S.140! how will this differ from the DZ version. I am looking for the 140 with the most power for some of my larger models. I have been told the Y.S.140 also develops more H/P than the Saito 180 is this true? Also do you know if Y.S. has any future plans for a twin!!! I was looking at the new Saito 200 V-Twin, and the thought occured to me! If Y.S. had a 280 2x140's Now that would be an awesome engine... : ) Cheers- |

The system is a true fuel pump and does not utilize pressure delivery from the tank. If you want the ultimate in power the DZ is the only way to go. The 140L was slightly more powerful than a Saito 180 and the DZ is far more powerful than either of those engines, the DZ will compare with the OS 140RX, Webra 145R, OS 160's 2-strokers. I have had my DZ spin a 16x12 at 9100 rpm....and a 16.5x12W at 8500.... |
Y.S. power
Thanks Chad,
Sounds like the DZ is the one for me... Are there any performance figures for the DZ...? sounds like it may be even as powerful, or more so than the Saito 200 V-Twin???? It will probably come down to one of these two engines for me. The V-twin has that V-twin appeal and the sound would be special : ). The plus's for the Y.S. are inverted installation reliability and no fuss setup and consistent starting, idle and operation...and power. My FZ 91 is without doubt the most powerful and reliable four stroke engine I have owned. The Saito 200 will have to be a very powerful motor for me to be swayed from the 140 DZ option. Cheers |

Y.S. 140 question
Bruce,
The 140L is not difficult to run, I just said it's not as user friendly as the DZ. They are completely different engines with regard to the fuel system. Since you are familiar with the YS engines I doubt you'll have a problem. Dave |
Y.S. 140 question
Ok thanks Dave for the info i am familiar with the ys motors and i think the 140l will be a good combo for the taylorcraft thanks Bruce S
