110FZ availability?

I am considering a pair of YS engines for a VQ P-61. The plane should weigh around 20 lbs but the cowls are very small, so compact high-output engines are needed. YS's would fit nicely.

But nobody seems to have a 110 in stock, some websites are saying the engines are temporarily out of production and others indicate delivery by the end of January. What is the scoop on this?

Also how does fuel consumption of the 110 compare against the 91?

RE: 110FZ availability?

The 110 is in extremely high demand and the YS factory is doing it's best to keep up, while still producing all of the other engines it makes.
It is not temporarily out of production, we are just between shipments again. More engines are supposed to ship around the end of this month. Normally it takes 2 to 3 weeks for shipments to reach us from Japan by the time ocean freight, customs and domestic delivery takes place. Figure on engines being in dealers hands by the end of February.

The 110 burns 1/4 to 1/2 oz more per minute than the 91 depending on the nitro content of the fuel used. Higher nitro=more consumption.

RE: 110FZ availability?

I just purchased a used 91-AC to try out since the 110's are so hard to come by. I am going to put it in my 60-size GP 300S, which has been flying on a Saito 100.

Some of the reference docs I've seen recommend a Tetra or other high-strength fuel tank. But fuel tank space in my P-61 will be be very limited, and I'd like to be able to select a tank with the best dimensions to maximize capacity.

So do major name-brand tanks (Sullivan, Du-Bro, etc.) handle the pressure OK?

I've used both Dubro and Hayes tanks with good success. Avoid "wimpy" tanks that feel soft when squeezing them.

They said in January in December....Now I have heard either February or March. More towards March. I have had a back order in for two months now. They keep moving it up!

Hi, Dave
This shipping arrived in USA ? I ordered my YS 110 locally in Israel in September and nothing. My LHS receive Ys via GreatPlanes. The last due date was Feb/15 and now was moved to march/15.

RE: 110FZ availability?

I just talked to a rep from YS today, and he said the engines should arrive to them in about two weeks, then they will be sent out to the distrubuters. That process is going to take another week or so. Bottom line is, everyone should be able to at least have a chance to get one in three to four weeks from now.

RE: 110FZ availability?

Dave,

Should I put a YS 110 or 140 sport in my Funtana 90. I have seen my friends 140FZ shake the airframe on a Dave Patrick Ultimate a lot. If the 140 sport shakes that much I fear it shake the light airframe apart on the Funtana. Finally, I have had a difficult time on the availability of either of these two engines. Can you provide any information on their availability?

Regards,

John

I'd go with the 110. We have some on the water now, they should be in dealers hands in about 2 to 3 weeks.

RE: 110FZ availability?

Dave,

The used 91AC that I've been testing has run great, so I went ahead and placed an order for a pair of new 110's for my P-61. I placed the order with one of the more visible YS dealers on the 'net. They said they asked for a bunch of 110's last time but only got a dozen or so. This time they asked for something like 36 and I am around 15th on their list.

Do you know if enough 110's are coming over this time to fill all the dealers' requests, and if not, what do you think the odds are that I will have a nice new pair of engines in a few weeks?

Walt

RE: 110FZ availability?

The 110's that are coming will fill less than half our orders. My suggestion to you is to get one on order with several different outlets. If you end up with more than 1, wait until there aren't any and sell it online for a profit. The demand is huge, the supply is limited, just like all YS engines. It's how the YS factory chooses to do business, no matter how much we don't like it.
