FZ-53 Compression

Hi

I bought a YS FZ-53 while on holiday in florida in Jan 2002. I have just got round to fitting it in my Hirrobo Stream 50 Hi Perf. The engine is new - straight out of the box and it has not been run yet. I would have bought another 63 - but my friend Harry C snapped up the only one in the shop - leaving me with the 53.

I have fitted the plug and prop - but I have noticed that if you turn the engine over - there is no compression. I have checked the valves - these seem Ok. I have checked the plug, this is in and OK.

I put some fuel into the tank, turned the engine over 10 times. Then checked the tank pressure - which seemed fine. But still no compression.

When I get the chance I will try and start it - but to be honest I doubt it will. I could be completely out of order here, as its a ringed piston it possibly needs to be started in order to 'bed-in'.

I also have an FZ-63, which is just fantastic. There just doesn't seem to be any specific power band .. it throttle as if it were an electric motor, instant, reliable and the power output just seems to be totally linear. Only trouble is I can't remember if that engine had any noticeable compression before its "first start".

Appreciate any feed back .. and I don't mind being called a fool!

FZ-53 Compression

Try running it and the compression may come up.
A lot of the 53's were sold prior to our gas ported piston mod, and I would bet this one is not mod'd. If the comp. doesn't come up after you try to run it, send it in and we'll fix it right.

FZ53 compression

Dave

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I will try and run the engine this weekend ... hopefully it will start and the compression build-up.

However, whilst the engine was purchase in the USA, its now firmly resident here in the UK. So your kind offer about sending it back for mods might be a tad difficult.

Anyway I will let you know how I get on with it.

FZ53 compression prob - OK

Just to let you know that the engine started OK - After two tanks of fuel, the compression is beggining to build up. I think another couple of ground runs should see the engine ready for flight.

Thanks for your help.
